You can take the bus to Lake Matka from the bus station or anywhere along Boulevard Partizanski Odredi, bus 60. The area is absolutely astonishing. You can walk along the lake to a cave, it's a long walk, or you can take a boat to...More

Really beautiful surroundings with all the green mountains, but the lake-area is really overrated - so many tourists and a lot of trash along the path. It's hard to enjoy the nature when the place is crowded with photographing people. I would not go there...More

The beautiful canyon draws a lot of people and it was very crowded on a Saturday in April. But once we got out on the water, we could enjoy the scenery fully. The landscape is very dramatic with steep mountains surrounding the river. It would...More

I visited in April on a rainy day, but was still gorgeous. The guy who took us in the boat to the caves was lovely, even though it was rainy.

If you ever visit Skopje you'd need to visit the canyon. My tips are the following: Allocate an antire day to Matka. Take the boat to tge cave vorno which trip costs 400 MKD per person. This journey will last an hour. Take another boat...More

The boat tour was pretty OK. The views were nice. Only pity is that apparently the owner had a issue with previous client who also hailed from the same country as I am from, so he proceeded to spend the whole trip explaining to me...More

We decided to visit Matka lake and canyon in the last day of our trip in Skopje and Kosovo, before we were going to the airport (Matka-Airpot Skopje 30-40 min). Save the best for the last they said and it was worth it. Some pictures...More

Our host drove us to this pretty lake and we spent an hour admiring the scenery and drinking beer at one of the restaurants there. The weather was perfect so it was an enjoyable afternoon. There’s a church dating back to 1389. Also a small...More

Go see this if at all possible. It is 25 minutes from central Skopje. And take the hour boat tour to the cave.

It's amazing to think that this beautiful nature area is so close to the busy city of Skopje, because out here you can feel like you're miles from anywhere. There's a path that leads along the side of the lake, so you can get great...More

Hi, I will echo another response that you received; that you just walk to the area near the resort hotel where you can rent a boat for about 400 MKD per person and see the lake on a guided tour. The path is somewhat narrow... More

I traveled to Lake Matka in the summer - July. I can only imagine it may be too cold in December. Do you think they may be closed during that time. I suggest you contact the Macedonian Tourist Office.
