Greater Light Home Tour

This was a very unique place to visit. A historic landmark that was once a barn and converted to a home. Quaker sisters lived here. Just wish we could tour the kitchen and upstairs room as well. Nice little area outdoors that publuc can use....More

very nice

we took our own walking tour using the map from the whaling museum. The museum admission included admission to this gem. created by twp sisters from Philadelphia it is amazing what they were able to do with an old barn and lots of salvaged items.

Eclectic

This is an interesting and eclectic home that was once a barn and was then purchased and fixed up by two sisters. Much of their artwork and estate sale finds are still there.More

Odd but neat

So old barn turned into summer residence by two sisters in the early 1910-20's. Some interesting furniture, architecture and paintings. Nice small garden out back. Short guided tour/history of the house. All family liked it. Took about 10minutes with the tour/lectureMore

Ecclectic house owned and renovated by two Quaker ladies in the earlie 1900's.

What a little gem. Worth the side trip. Unusual and spiritual setting. A must see. Artistic site. Takes you back to the 1900's and 1920's.More

Unique Home

The Greater Light has an interesting history of two eccentric sisters who settled in Nantucket. The home has many unique features, from the fireplace to the windows. The iron gates and windows are just beautiful. The gardens are refreshing.

Delightful Surprise

New to us, it is not a lighthouse. Two sisters fashioned a most un-Quaker-like house. If one needs a little break from 19th century austerity in your house tours, this is the place.

To sum it up two old spinsters that had weird tastes, when it came to art, left this house to the historical society. I think you need to be into art to appreciate this place

Fascinating!

If you are an artist, this is a very stimulating place in terms of a variety of gates and windows to view. I personally enjoyed taking photos of these. Interesting history of the place as well.
