Played on The Bear as a package with the hotel. The service in the pro shop, Clubhouse Grill and starters were just excellent. Great staff. As for The Bear being an 'elite' course, I'd say it's good but not great.

This Gary Player designed course is excellent. It truly offers challenges to golfers of all levels. We played on an overcast day and thoroughly enjoyed the course, the variety of challenges it continued to offer. The front nine winds through lowland terrain with water and wetlands to attempt to avoid. On the back nine the course moves to higher terrain... More

I've always been a big fan of the three courses at Grand Traverse, and they are always in great shape. The Bear is a Jack Nicklaus designed course that used to host the Michigan Open. From the back tees, it's a VERY difficult course. Even from the blue tees, it will be a tough challenge for most golfers. The white... More

Have not played Spruce Run for a few years and will not anymore anytime soon as it is really run down and not maintained like the other resort courses. one only has to look in the bunkers to get an overall impression of maintenance, very little sand, leftover fall leaves, sticks etc. We never saw a ranger driving around and... Went with eight couples (our second such trip there) and we played the Spruce Course, and stayed at the resort. It all started out okay, until the back nine when we were constantly harassed by the course ranger about the pace of play. Now, I'm all about, and completely understand the idea of pace of play... We, ourselves were waiting... More

This is a great hotel and conference center attached to three world class golf courses. A nice selection of restaurants and shops. The higher the tower room you select the better the view of Lake Michigan. The west rooms have the best views.

Just wanted to play a quick 9 and let my girlfriend drive. Found a deal for 50$ for 18 holes at wolverine. Called the front desk and they could only offer me 9 at Spruce Run for 55$. Reluctantly accepted, just wanted to play. They also got me for a $10 rider fee and what really irked me was 7$... More

We played The Bear and it was a tough course. There were a lot of hazards to get in to. It was also a very fair course with a lot of chances to "go for it". The pace of play was a little slow (5 hours) but we did not mind as the views were amazing. The staff was very... More

My husband and I played on the Bear course and it was very difficult! If you are an average golfer and don't always hit it straight you may want to play somewhere else. There was too much trouble to get into off of the tee and the greens were guarded by a lot of trouble as well. I am giving... More

" The Bear" gives you beauty and challenge wrapped up in one package. Prefer an easier route? The Wolverine and Resort course will give you a challenge of a different kind. Easier on the handicaps.
