I hiked this with my teenagers and although we are in pretty good shape, we live at sea level so it was a good lung and leg work-out for us. Julio was our guide and tried to teach us plants, etc, but there was a...More

Pacaya is one of three active volcanoes in Guatemala. Because it rarely violent, many people climb to near the summit or ascend by horseback. I have climbed higher steeper volcanoes, but I have to say I recommend horseback for this one because you can just...More

My wife and I did this hike. We are in our mid fourties and fit enough. The trai was steep but doable. There were some 20 year old girls who quickly asked for horse/mule transportation, but I think at least one had a medical problem...More

Great experience for our adventurous teens. They went here with their Spanish tutors -- even roasted marshmallows on a hot spot!

Went to this attraction with a guide I met at my school. It was postponed due to volcanic over activity. we got to watch it from the cities down 10 miles away. It was fantastic!

Pacaya Volcano has become a tourist trap. Locals and Guides try to impose hiring a private guide apart from the price of the entrance. Locals also overprice for parking and you have people all over asking you for money. Police officers , guards, and staff...More

Our guide provided the marshmallows for us. He took us over to the what I call the lower side of the lava field opposite the little tienda that is set up there. That was where to hottest spots were to roast.
