My friends and myself wanted to do some kind of volcano hike and chose Pacaya because of the moderate difficulty level and length of the hike. We had a great time on this tour and booked through El Hostel in Antigua. We were picked up...More

Seeing an active volcano is cool, so Acatenango or Pacaya are your best bet. Pacaya is only a 1/2 day hike and not that hard (and there horses if needed) while Acatenango is an overnight excursion. The morning has clearer skies. The afternoon/night shows the...More

We took an afternoon trip through the Yellow House hostel (one of the cheapest short tours we found) and had a great time. We had 7 on the tour with 1 guide which was perfect. A moderate hike up to the viewpoint, slightly steep in...More

This was our warm up climb for Acatenango and so highly recommend! Basic fitness level will get you the opportunity to walk on volcanic gravel, toast marshmallows in a lava hole, summit a small mountain and see a very active volcano flaring. Really a wonderful...More

I did the sunset hike of the volcano. It was not an easy hike up there. It was a vertical climb, but the views made it worth it. There were options for riding a horse, or buying a walking stick at the bottom if you...More

I would say don't pack hiking shoes just for this. Sneakers are fine if you are in decent shape and don't have ankle issues. Hiking boots would be better, but only if you have the space in your luggage.
