About
This monumental arch was built as a passageway between the monastery and adjoining school. The buildings were constructed to accommodate an increase in religious followers during the 17th century.

now is the best time to go see this, i have dozens of pictures of it and there is nobody in my images. the lack of tourists right now is so nice because you can take great pictures without anyone clutting and crowding your scene.

The Arco is a tourist attraction here in Antigua and there are many restaurants on the same street. Definitely worth checking out when in Antigua.

Gorgeous piece of architecture. It's definitely a must see when in Antigua. Try and go super early in the morning or late at night. During the day, even during COVID, it's got lots of people hustling and bustling about.

Neat architecture, but it's just an arch. Worth seeing, though. There are nice shops in the area to check out. Several sightseers were taking pictures of the arch.

One of those spots you can’t avoid seeing, incredibly iconic and well located. For nice photos, I highly recommend going around sunrise when no one around. Right underneath the arch there’s a little wine shop that’s well worth the stop as well.

This may be an unpopular opinion but this attraction is overrated. Once you take your picture there's not much to do here. Coffee shops and restaurants around the place are overpriced and don't get me started on the "native craft" shops. Yes, it's a symbol of Guatemala, and yes Vulcan de Agua looks impressive looming above but in the end it's only good for a few minutes then you will move on.

The street leading to the arch has lots of vendors and shops of Guatemalan handcrafts and the arch itself is one of the famous images of the Antigua area. A quick walk from the central square.

Guatemala was a stop on our cruise ship so we signed up for a Blue Planet shore excursion which drove us 2 hours to Antigua. There are so many sites to visit in this beautiful city including the Arco de Santa Catalina. The Arch was built in the 1690s so cloistered nuns could walk from the convent to the school without having to cross the streets of the city. You can see the Agua Volcano in the background as you stand under the arch. I highly recommend a short visit for some great pictures.

Lots of shops around. The church next to it is beautiful and there's street food all around. That area is worth going for a walk.
