This monumental arch was built as a passageway between the monastery and adjoining school. The buildings were constructed to accommodate an increase in religious followers during the 17th century.

the arch is probably the best known view of Antigua, but hardly for its construction and architecture, as the arch itself is nothing special. the whole lane with the vulcano in the background make the picture. and the arch provides the frame. nice anyway.

Just love this area in Antigua. Have stayed right here at the arc in a quaint hotel and have returned to this city a few times since. Well worth a visit when in Guatemala.

We were recommended to visit the Arco de Santa Catalina because it's one of the iconic photos from Antigua. Unfortunately restoration work was being done which spoiled the view of the volcano through the arch. Hopefuly the work will soon be finished.

Let's be clear that the arch does nothing but stand - but still it is an "iconic" part of Antigua. If you're visiting Antigua the chances of you missing this is low anyways. There are lots of shops and restaurants near here that are fun...More

If you want to get a picture of this iconic building, you'll have to go at sunrise... Nevertheless, the life around, the merchants, ...are part of its charm.

The Arch can’t be missed it’s in the middle of town. All visitors that have a camera can’t resist taking a picture from any vantage point.

Iconic spot in Antigua and makes for a fantastic photo especially with the massive volcano in the background.

At time of visiting it was being repaired/repainted. But it is still beautiful and also at night when lit up.
