We decided to walk from downtown instead of taking a Tuk Tuk. Despite some of the negative reviews, I would recommend the walk to anyone who is able to do it.
To get to the beginning of the hike you must walk along a relatively busy street, some areas have a nice sidewalk, others not so much.
When you get to the top of the hill at the cul de sac, the road splits to the right for vehicles and tuk tuks. The foot path is to your left. The ascent is rather abrupt for the first few feet, but levels out and meanders through a tree lined area. I would personally rate this as easy, but for those with any physical challenges, it may be challenging.
We didn't see anything remotely dangerous on the path, but I can see how that could be a concern.

Nice view of Antigua, easy walk from the main plaza or take a tuk tuk! Youre going for the view. There is security up there, and they will tell you when they are leaving (Dusk)

Worth seeing! Beautiful view of Antigua and surrounding area, including the volcanos. Seeing the cross up close is moving - and it's a gorgeous photo location.

Cerro de la Cruz gives awesome views of the city. We went early early in the day; definitely recommended to avoid the heat the sun brings in the afternoon. I also recommend taking a tuk tuk/taxi/Uber up the hill if you aren't in great shape. It is a fairly steep climb. There are several vantage points for pictures, but you aren't likely to spend more than an hour visiting. It is absolutely worth the time for the beautiful views!

This is a fantastic place to get a view of all of Antigua. Definitely recommend venturing up there. We got a Tuk Tuk up there, but then walked back down. The trails are actually really nice and paved. There are steps in the pavement though, so not sure if it'd be good for wheelchair people.

Great views of the city. Go early in the morning for small crowds and better photo ops. We cheated and spent a few bucks and took an Uber.

There are several things that vloggers on YouTube don't talk about when it comes to this place. 1. the approach to the trail is down a narrow street with no sidewalk where you'll have to dodge both traffic and other tourists heading to and from the mountain. 2. The hike to the top can be strenuous for those who do not exercice on regular basis. Its not a long hike but I have seen middle aged ladies all along the path taking breaks and looking winded. 3. When you get to the top its a zoo, a human zoo. Tourists on top of tourists posing and looking for the best place to snap their picture. 4. there is not nearly enough seating on top and the "park" if you can call it that is mostly dirt, though some attempt at landscaping seems to be taking shape, but as of April 2021 , dirt. 5. Parking lot halfway to the very top is loud and a source of even more tourists. on the positive side, the view is fairly spectacular and if you venture all the way to th etop of the hill, which almost noone does, there is a statue of the patron saint of the city.

Making it a "worthwhile climb" to the top of this hill (and which is also just a "fairly easy" one of just about a 10-minute walk uphill through "short steps" not requiring much physical effort) is the view of the big volcano Volcan de Agua at just pretty immediately to the south of the city and which I would just describe despite its peak being kind of "haze-covered" at the time as "quite a phenomenal" one in the way of "towering over" this small town due to its height & proximity to the town (especially the pretty great height of it, I would say, for that kind of "viewing impression" which somehow was not the case for another similar scene seen some days prior to this scene, namely that of Volcan Mombacho seen from Granada in Nicaragua which despite its proximity to that small town is not as high compared to this volcano). And apart from that great view up here is also a cross of some "significant size" (which is standing above a "stone ball"), and yes also can be done is some "souvenir shopping" from a number of outdoor vendors (but for which are also small indoor shops alongside the streets down below).

After just an hour or so on a "chicken bus" from Guatemala City was my arrival at the "outdoor terminal" of the town from which it was just about a 10-minute walk heading east "straight along one street" (one of the smaller streets just across the main street from the bus terminal) to the town's "main plaza" Parque Central with also the "main cathedral" Catedral de San Jose on its east side (with really an "impressive exterior" for the length of the building & also the great facade featuring "quite a number" of saint statues but just not much to see inside). And yes, not a short walk but one of about 20 minutes from the Plaza along somewhat of a "winding way" heading north is to the bottom of this hill, with 2 other "worthwhile stops" along the way (actually shortly after leaving the Plaza from its northwest corner) being the town's "iconic arch" Arco de Santa Catalina to pass under and Iglesia de la Merced smaller in size than the main cathedral but with a nice dome above & a beautiful facade also with a number of saint statues as on the facade of the main one.
