Cathedral of Saint Domnius in Split Country Croatia Denomination Roman Catholic Architecture Style Ancient/Romanesque Years built 4th century Clergy The Cathedral of Saint Domnius (Croatian: Katedrala Svetog Duje), known locally as the Sveti Dujam or colloquially Sveti Duje, is the Catholic cathedral in Split, Croatia. The cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska, headed by Archbishop Marin Barišić. The Cathedral of St. Domnius is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Domnius. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Domnius. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD, is regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date (though the bell tower dates from the 12th century). The structure itself, built in AD 3

Really worth a visit. When you climb up the stairs to the top you will be stunned by the magnificent view! Don't miss it while in Split.

It’s a steep and scary climb to the top of the tower but worth it for the fantastic views if you’re brave enough! There are 360 degree views of the sea/city/mountains from the top, plus the bells are quite a sight too. A bargain for...More

The ticket to the bell tower is included in the one with all the attractions at the main ticket stall. For someone with a fear of hights, the stairs to the top of the tower scared me- but I would have definitely regretted not going...More

We bought the red combination tickets for these must-see attractions in Split. You also gain entry to the treasury and baptistery. Lots of history here. Some of the steps up the bell tower are steep and narrow but there is a one way system in...More

The bell tower view from the top is worth the climb, but not for the faint hearted! The steel staircase rises up around the inside walls of the tower with views out through the windows and down the centre the bottom, so if you suffer...More

Beautiful view. Terrifying steps. The first set of steps are very steep stone and very tight, you have to go up in single line. Half way the steps change to metal which are easier to climb but you can see through them right to the...More

A busy location..... The climb up stairs in Tower can be a bit scary for people with a fear of heights. We also felt the stair case was a bit open ( if you tripped or slipped ) there could be a very bad fall...More

I'm not especially afraid of heights, but you could have fooled me walking up those steps... The stairs were hanging from the walls and the railings were no comfort. People walking up and down, meeting in corners with just one single, tiny steel bar between...More

For 25 kuna a ticket will buy Cathedral entry, treasury, baptistery, crypt and bell tower. Cathedral is easily the smallest we have visited. However the Bell tower is the star. The views from the top are priceless indeed. The stairs are steep and the handrail...More
