This castle is built in the water about 25 metres off the land with a causeway linking it to land and making it a delightful entrance to a unique otherworld. The castle is currently home to a number of small and tiny apartments but you can walk around the inside of the castle to soak up the atmosphere and some... More

Kastel Gomilica was founded in 1529 by Benedictine nuns and is one of seven such forts in the Kastela area. Recently, this middle ages fort has been used as a backdrop for episodes of the TV program "Game of Thrones" that feature the city of 'Bravos". Of all the 7 castles, I would call this "the floating one", because it is right near the sea. It is small but picturesque, and for Game of Thrones fans: this is the place where most of the scenes of Arya Stark (last season) where filmed.

We stayed here for 18 days and it was the perfect location, away from the city but within easy reach of Split and Trogir by bus or car. Also well placed for access to national parks. We loved strolling along the beaches and harbours and shopping in the markets. We hope to return soon.

Kastela is the real Croatia. I highlight recommend you visit. Kastela is the name for 7 single, but connected villages that have existed since the 15th century. Its a fantastic location for walks along the ocean, plenty of places to eat, coffee bars and supermarkets. The 15th century castles and churches located along Kastela bay are definitely worth seeing. There... More
