The view is what matters there. The red building is beautiful and there is one curiosity: Famous Split Festival is held there. There are a few coffee shops, restaurants and it is a really nice place with a view on the sea and a fountain. It is really enjoyable (if that is a word).

A very popular spot located west of the Riva. The Republic Square is surrounded on three sides by a collection of elaborate neo-Renaissance buildings (known as the Prokurative). The open side (south) provides a beautiful view of the harbor and waterfront. Following largely the Italian tradition, it has a colonnade resembling the Venetian style. Carved reliefs above the windows evoke... More

Remember Piazza San Marco. Relive a cleaner version. Just pissed because in my humble opinion the cafés should not be allowed to extend their reach all the way to the middle of the Piazza.

The Prokurative was built by a rich local on the model of St. Mark's Square, Venice - recall that Venice was the dominant power in the Adriatic for centuries. It has interest architecturally and as a curiosity.

This square out of the Palace area is often missed by the tourists but is interesting and a surprise when you first see it if you are not expecting its classic lines. Well worth passing through.

The square has a different architectural feel comparing to the rest of the old town; however, it is basically empties you can see from the photo. We however found a bike rental there and rent a bike for a couple of hours. That was good fun to ride along the sea side. We originally thought we could bike up to... More
