- colleen bCranbrook, Canada32 contributionsA beautiful experienceWe went to listen to this marvel in the evening of our first day…and it was a haunting experience Not too many people on this warm October night, so we were able to sit right on the edge of the ocean. Then we went back the next afternoon and were surprised to hear the music just as clearly as the night before. So, I don’t think it seems to make any difference as to the time of day.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 October 2023
- Susan CBarnard Castle, United Kingdom317 contributionsMesmerisingWe visited this as a stop on a TukTuk tour (which was very good). It was so hypnotic we could have stayed for hours, and we would love to come back. Only thing is if you are not able to sit on low steps (we have some mobility difficulties and would never have got up again!) there aren’t any normal level seats right on the organ itself. So we stood/walked, and marvelled at the sight and sounds of it.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 October 2023
- dese2Auburn, New York3,493 contributionsClever and wonderfulOur ship docked just by this splendid organ - it is a wonderful way to "listen" to the ocean. The pipes that make music from the wave action is built into steps leading straight to the water. Folks can sit on the steps or at the wall next to the walkway. The sound can be captivating and all for free! Spend a few minutes enjoying Zadar here.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 November 2023
- ToriDenver, Colorado63 contributionsRelaxing sunset spotThe Morske Orgulje is a free spot with a stunning view. I visited during the day to watch the sea and to read a book and again at sunset. (More crowed at sunset for obvious reasons). It is very beautiful and soothing with the musical notes that are generated by the sea. The constantly shifting waves never play the same tune twice.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 20 February 2024
- TVDadTampa, Florida1,810 contributionsMust Do While Visiting ZadarYou won’t spend hours at the Sea Organ, but this free attraction is absolutely worth visiting for a while. It’s just outside the walls of old town and is aptly named. The tide pushes sea water into polyethylene tubes buried beneath granite steps. The water forces air out and the resulting pressure creates nature’s organ music. My family sat entranced for about 20 minutes. It was wonderfully soothing and inviting. And again it’s FREEVisited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 May 2024
- EleanorNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom44 contributionsRelaxing place to sitThe sea organ is must-see attraction in Zadar. It is steps (that you can sit on) and hear the music that the waves make as they ebb and flow. As boats go past and create a wash the sound changes! A lovely place to sit and watch the world go by and free!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 31 May 2024
- Joasi23South Yorkshire, United Kingdom1,999 contributionsYou will stay longer than you plannedHead for the sea from the old town and wander right, that should lead you to the groups of people sat on the steps enjoying the unique sound created by nature and clever design . We googled while we were there as there are no information boards , so if the way it works and the history of it is of interest maybe do that prior to going . We spent at least half hour sat enchanted by the ever changing tones .Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 June 2024

Well worth walking down the waterfront. Best subset of my life pity I’m alone very romantic.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 17 June 2024

Crowds of people, but it doesn't matter. Zadar is a lovely place with lots of history and lots to do and see. We sat here after wandering through the market and looking at the ruins. Great place.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 June 2024

We arrived at the sea organ at sunset and watched the most gorgeous sunset. As we did not fully experience the sea organ due to the crowds so we went back later at night. Nighttime was memorable - listening to the sea organ and watching the lights and dancing. What a creative art-piece to enable so many people appreciate the sea, the sunset, and beautiful summer evenings!

Strange and unique, a must for any Zadar visit. Best time of day is at sunset, so you can lose yourself in the beautiful sight in the West and the mystical sounds all around you, simultaneously. The Sea Organ is at its best when a large boat passes by to kick up some waves, which are the driving force behind the sounds.

It was a windy day so there was a fairly heavy surf and the sea organ played loudly! So loud because of the rough surf. The flute tones were flat because of the surf. We went back the next day and it was more quiet and in tune most of the time. Highly recommend!

The shore is singing! When the waves crush on the shore, it gives the impresion of a music instrument playing. Very interesting and unusual.
The organs are located in a very good spot for watching sunset, a nice bonus.

Pretty cool.
The sounds are haunting and the fact that the city would put so much money and energy into an installation like this speaks volumes about how much they value tourism. It's beautiful, functional, and artistic all wrapped into one package.
I'm glad I don't live near it. I can't imagine how loud and annoying it might get in a storm.

Zadar's waterfront is not just a great spot for strolling and watching the sunset. On the southwestern quay, we sat on the steps to listen to the Sea Organ. It is one of the top attractions located on the Zadar Riva. What initially may look simply like a series of shallow steps leading into the Adriatic, this art instalment is actually a musical instrument that plays melodic tunes with the water crashing into it. This is also an ideal spot to settle yourself to watch the sunset, which legendary film director Alfred Hitchcock once described as “the world’s most beautiful”.
Designed by architect Nikola Basic, this musical instrument is built right into the quayside. Under the stone steps are a set of pipes which produce musical chords as waves push the air up through the pipes. Sea motion drives air and water through the whistles' openings, producing an endless string of sounds that vary according to the force and speed of the waves and that is best described as a mellow whale-cello duet.
During any season and at practically any time of day, you are guaranteed to find people sitting on the steps, or on the benches nearby, listening to the haunting humming and moaning produced by the organ in union with the forces of nature.
Free and sunset included.

On our tour from Holland America, we took a bus from our ship that dropped us off at the sea organ to begin our walking tour.
Insofar as I am aware, this is the only sea organ in the world. This device was made by the architect Nikola Bašić as part of the project to redesign the new city coast and the site was opened to the public on 15 April 2005. The waves interact with the organ and create somewhat random but harmonic sounds.

What a lovely feature on the sea shore. The Sea Organ captures the movement of the waves and transforms it into music. It is very popular place just to sit and listen to the notes that are being created by the water. There are so few in the world it is definitely worth a visit.

The sea organ is a very unique art installation. The seawater moving through the sea organ makes some haunting and enchanting music. Stopping and listening to it for a bit is very relaxing and enjoying. This is a perfect place to take a break and a must-visit site in Zadar.

The organ was a nice thing to experience and it made beautoful sounds of the sea. Especially during sunset it is magic to experience.
Just try to do it early in the morning during sunrise when the place is not too crowded by tourists who can't keep their mouths shut and enjoy the moment. Must see in Zadar!
