Loved this. Main square of the old town. I walked through it so many times. Loved the architecture, churches and atmosphere. Walk around, explore and then grab a bite to drink or some food at one of the restaurants and enjoy!

This is the first thing we saw when we walked through the sea gate (main gate). The square has a nice clock tower as you walk in, as well as an old palace, a few souvenir shops, and some great restaurants. Nice little lively square!

The main square of old Kotor.
In Venetian times munitions were made and stored here (hence it's name).

This charming square greets you right after going through the main gate. Once you enter, it is hard to decide which direction to go exploring. Don't worry, every direction is a delight.

We visited in low season so the square was fairly quiet. I can imagine just how busy this place gets in the summer. There are several places to eat and drink nearby and also places to relax and get shade in the hot months.

The Piazza of Arms is kind of the main location you start and end at as it is next to the main gate and is a large open area. There are a lot of great restaurants and ice cream shops here surrounded by beautiful buildings including the clock tower. It tends to be crowded because of the location, thankfully there is enough breathing room here. From the piazza, I had no plans. Just find a narrow alley from here and go explore!

Just inside the walled city of Kotor is this lovely small piazza with its iconic clock tower facing the main gate.
As in many other small cities the piazza has many narrow side streets leading off it and many good restaurants found here.
Visitors should expect to find the piazza rammed with people during the summer and especially when cruise liners have docked.

A nice square with the clock tower and city gate in one corner. It can get very busy as the gate is the main entrance to the old town for the many tour parties.

We entered Old Town via the Sea Gate and walked right into this piazza. Great architecture all around with shops and cafes lining the piazza. This seems to be the hub of Old Town since many of the little cobblestone side streets lead you to the rest of Old Town.

Upon entrance to the walled city thru the Sea Gate, one is exposed to the Piazza of the Arms that features an ancient clock tower right in front of you. If you look to your left, the Piazza extends for a distance toward the St. Tryphon Serbian Orthodox Church and a small Catholic Church that withstood the 1767 earthquake. There are shops and restaurants surrounding this huge rectangular area. The day was exceedingly hot and we welcomed the fans and misting vents mounded above the awning and umbrella tables. The restaurants featured pizza and seafood. The shops featured nautical themed clothing with blue & white strips, captain's hats, and sailor suits and dresses for little boys and girls. As a former Duchy allied to Venice as evidenced by the winged lion, this seafaring nation's economy was based on the sea.
