About
Cats Museum was founded in 2013. It is located in the middle of the Old town of Kotor, in the area of the antique monastery of Our lady of Angels, which belonged to the nuns of Santa Clara. This area, currently open to the public, used to be an antique refectory, unfortunately unrecognizable due to numerous reconstructions which followed after the abolition of the religious community. The biggest part of the Museum's collection comes from Venice, more precisely from the fund of the International Centre for Adopting Cats "Badoer" enriched by the substantial donation from countess Francesca Montereale di Mantica. The exhibition contains engravings (XVI-XIX c), antique books (XVI-XIX c), coins, medals (XIX -XX c), illustrated postcards (1891-1950), greeting cards, old photographs, cinematographic posters, sheet music, records, old advertisements, various objects, stamps, etc. One big section is dedicated to the Cat exhibitions before the First World War as well as to the children through the most common school items: notebooks, infant books, etc. The museum's goal is that, through the cat as the most common pet, the public gets a message of respect for the environment and the nature, each day more and more threatened by men. On request, The Museum organizes traveling exhibitions in various European countries and within its possibilities constantly buys pieces that can enrich its collection. Furthermore, the museum is available to host exhibitions featuring the works of contemporary artists who are interested to organize their art events in Kotor. A certain percentage from its income is spent on buying food for the street cats.

We felt like this was a petshop, but the only animals there were cats. Unless you're a cat lover, then I would stay away.

I actually don't really know what I was expecting when visiting a cat museum. I guess, cat toys, types of cats, cats throughout history, no idea. But I was excited to visit the museum. The entrance was only 1 Euro, so even if it wasn't what I expected, no worries. The whole museum was small, one floor, a few rooms. Most of the items they had were very odd cat paintings or pictures, a few postcards, and other stuff hanging on the wall related to cats. I just expected something different, but am glad I can say I saw the cat museum. I probably wouldn't recommend it if you have limited time. Besides Kotor has tons of live cats walking around to see!

I’m sad to report that the museum is closed for renovations until May 2020. My husband knew it would be really fun for me so went but we were met with locked doors.Oh well, next time. If you’re coming in from a cruise bring the kitties some lunch meat. The museum isn’t open but the kitties are still all around and happy for the treats you give them.

Go if you like cats and want to contribute to their upkeep - Place was crowded, extremely hot - litter box prominently displayed and smelly - had to share a laminated guide of what was what as we walked through the underwhelming displays.

If you want cat magnets, this is the place to go to, a whole room dedicated to cat magnets, perfect for the cat lover. I only saw the sign of the quirky place and decided to take a stroll there. Worth a little visit.

I got to touch an actual cat, look at old photographs of Hollywood actresses with cats and buy a quirky cat magnet what more could you want. The museum is just a couple of small rooms with cat related posters and memorabilia and that's ok for €1. The staff member was friendly as he gave me an English language information sheet and explained the layout of the museum.

Possibly not worth going out of your way to find it.

One floor of old post cards and other trivia related to cats and their relation with a Kotor.

Tiny museum with lots of curious stuff about cats. You get a panflet with the descriptions, so you won't miss a thing.

Everything is curious, funny or cute.

If you like cats and would like to contribute helping the cats in Kotor visit this place. Come on, it's only 1€! :)

this only costs a euro per person and everything in here is cat related. If it has a cat picture or a reference to a cat, it is here. An interesting collection. Bought our "Cats of Kotor" calendar for 2020 here. Also a cat museum has to have a resident cat, a kitten which follows you around and wants to play all the time, brilliant.

I'd read the reviews, and the awesome responses to negativity 😂, so knew what to expect. For only a euro you see some brilliant cat paraphernalia that must've taken someone a lot of time and dedication to put together. Some of it is beautiful, some educational and some so bizarre you've got to laugh. I absolutely loved it and would recommend to anyone for a short visit 😻
