Up on the hill, totally worth the climb up the crooked stairs. Exhibits around are not well preserved, could be to off season. Church is quite nice and well preserved, some original wall paintings are still there. The view of the valley and Asenovgrad is quite nice

One of the symbols of Asenovgrad city. Very nice road which leads to the Asen's Fortress. The view is beautiful. The are places for rest, also a coffee machine, free wi-fi. Nice place for walks.

I stopped here between a visit to Plovdiv and the Bachkovo Monastary. So glad I did! The views are spectacular, though there are a lot of stairs to take up to the top. Most of the fortress is actually another church, but the views make this stop worth it. Drive up to the top and pay for parking (3 lev... More

This fortress is worth visiting if passing by, but I would not recommend driving a long way just to visit it. Given the proximity, one can combine a visit to Bachkovo Monastery with a visit to Assen's fortress.

Nice and peaceful place to walk. From the top it has a beautiful view of the surrounding area. It is easy to get there by car but sometimes not so easy to find parking space.

We caught the bus from Plovdiv and walked from the bus stop to Assen's Fortress (about 3km). The walk was up hill, obviously, but very enjoyable as the way is largely shaded and there is a water spring about half way up. We arrived at the top and went to the small building to buy tickets. The woman who served... More

Impressive view over the mountains while visiting this historical site; nice climb to do by feet; when possoble for you leave your car down close to the main road and make the climb to the fortress by feet (if not you'll pat for the parking spot).

Asenova krepost is an old fortress built on a stone ridge, a few kilometers away from Asenovgrad. It overlooks the entire town and dates back to the Ancient Roman and Early Byzantine period. It was somewhat renovated during the rule of the Bulgarian tsar Ivan Asen II to serve as a border. The best preserved part of it is the... More

Been there a couple of times, each time looks even more majestic. A big part of the fortress is destroyed over time, yet that does not take away from the beauty. It even adds atmosphere of historical significance and architectural heritage from times long past.
