St. Mina Monastery

I love the place. Great architecture. St. Mina historical city (4th century) is amazing. You can see the Coptic-byzantine style. The new cathedral is a piece of art.

The trip to visit the Monastery is a bit long for a small visit time. the place was crowded specially my visit was in a vacation day. the spiritual feel of the place is dimmed by the presence of lots of noisy people and sales kiosks in the middle of the Monastery.

It's around an hour drive and consists of the old, antiquated, original village and then the Monastery, Our understanding is that Saint Mina's body was originally buried in the old village and this is the locations the miracles happened that designated him... The monastery is located at a place in the Western Desert that Saint Mina was buried circa 3rd, 4th century AD. The place used to be desert but with the spread of irrigation from the Nile river, the area is... More

This is not a cave in the mountains little church. The monastery is an all-out, spectacular site. You have to turn off the main road, but it is worth the while.
