Located near the site of the ancient library of Alexandria, this modern version is an eleven-story, cylindrical-shaped building that houses more than eight million books. A re-imagining of Alexandria's ancient Great Library, this gorgeously designed cultural center contains a host of museums as well as one of the modern world's most ambitious libraries. Its architecture - a giant sun disk - presides over the waterfront Corniche, while inside, a huge reading room can hold eight million volumes. Below themain library, visitors can explore a range of beautifully curated exhibitions. TheManuscript Museum with its magnificent collection of ancient texts and scrolls and the Antiquities Museum with its Graeco-Roman antiquities and statuary found during underwater exploration in the harbor are the two prime attractions. But there are also rotating art exhibitions, a permanent Egyptian folk art collection, and a Science Museum and Planetarium that are aimed squarely at children.

I love history and the Alex Library is not really about history it is a modern library looking to gain its former glory as the greatest library in the world. A couple of interesting things to see there are the Ancient Manuscripts (small but getting bigger as the aquire more and more) and they will have a changing display on... More

What a wonderful surprise the modern library is. The architecture and interior design are magnificent and creative. Take the 15 minute tour and then spend an hour or two looking at the art and visiting the archaeology museum. Fantastic.

Absolutely beautiful modern architecture in the spirit of one of the greatest libraries in the ancient world. The Sadat exhibit is well worth a look, and the gift shop has quality merchandise.

The Library is amazing, you can get a free guided tour (approx. 10 - 15 minutes) in English (and other languages). The Library is huge. There are also a lot of exhibitions. Certainly a must see if you are in Alexandria.

The biggest library, with coffee shops and bookstore nearby. It has museum, halls, exhibition centre, and library of course. In the library, the view is magnificent but sometimes there's some egyptians making noise, especially couples. I hope the management or security could do something about this. A tight security area, which not everyone can access, give more privacy to visitors.... More

The Bibliotheca is mind blowing! It also houses a number of worthwhile museums and permanent exhibits, like the Adam Henen and Shady Abdel Salam sections, the latter in particular will blow you away, it hosts plenty of sketches by Shady Abdel Salam, Salah Marei and Onsi Abu Seif from executed and never shot movies, sketches that are masterpieces of their... Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a reconstruction of the ancient Library as a cultural centre with several museums and a huge library. The Manuscript Museum [costs LE 100 extra] has a collection of ancient texts and scrolls and the Antiquities Museum [costs LE 100 extra] displays Graeco-Roman artifacts. Many times it is closed to visitors so it is best to check before... More
