This place gives visitors a good impression of the King's life many years ago. The entry fee is 10000 MMK and you have to leave a personal ID document as deposit for the visitor pass so better bring a copy of you passport. The entry ticket is also valid for other sights around Mandalay. From the entry you have to... More

This is a partial reconstruction without the full level of embellishment but gives a good impression of what the palace would have looked like. Worth a visit.

As it was only rebuilt in 1990s the Palace lacks history or details. The throne room is most interesting and the original walls but I wouldn't bother to go when Mandalay has much better options on offer.

Although the royal palace is a replica, the original having burnt down, it is worth a visit. The palace is not just one building, but a series of buildings; each of the king's wives and concubines had their own quarters. Those buildings occupied and used by the king were covered in gold leaf, others, although ornately carved, were plain. The... More

The surrounding perimeter of this place is an army training facility, so security is incredibly tight. However the Palace itself is a peaceful enjoyable experience. Full of history. Take the climb up the tower for an incredible view of the area. Wander down the far right hand corner and on the other side of the wall you will see an... More

Stay away from this ersatz royal palace (reconstructed for self-aggrandizement by the military junta) except for a quick look to grasp the astonishing scale and brilliant ornamentation of what must have been a truly fantastic place, quite unique in the world in the 19th, early 20th centuries - before looting by the British in the 19th century and then total... Lots of building to explore with plenty to read about, a nice way to while away the morning or afternoon.

Run down and shabby. cover your shoulders and knees- which gets hot! $10 fee but keep your ticket to get into a few other places around Mandalay.
