We hired bikes for a couple of days in Luang Prabang & cycled here one morning. It was hazy but nice views around town, however the temple wasn't open. Opening hours 8-10am & 13.30-16.30. Still it was an impressive looking temple.

This temple is a bit tricky to find, but well worth your time to locate and visit. I have been here with each of my three visits to Luang Prabang spanning over 20 years. The only draw back to the temple is it seems to...More

We had plenty of time to spare so hired a tuk tuk to take us up on the hill. Views were okay but nothing startling. Website and signs said it should have been open, but like a few other people wandering around the perimeter unfortunately...More

Wat Pa Phon Phai was the end point of our city biking. It's only 3km from the central market, but maybe less tourists don't know about. Our tour guide suggested it offers a great city view, and it was, but not great. The view from...More

This is in a calm hilltop just outside the town. The Wat is a modern temple in an isolated place. One can get a hill top view of Luang Prabang from behind the temple. Not a must see at all, unless you have religious reasons.

This is the first 'modern' Wat I've seen (built in 1987 I believe) and it is quite startling. Definitely worth a visit though but I had hoped to hear drumming at 4 p.m. and there was none - maybe because it was a Saturday. Robert...More
