Highly recommended, off beaten tracks we had a great afternoon only 2 of us with the teachers and the owner. They were very patient teaching us how to make the pottery, in a good english, we've also visited this small village specialized in pottery making.
We bought few ceramics from the shop - unexpensive and good quality!
The house is their family house, they served us with some water and local steamed corn, very good option to spend few hours out of the city.

A very warm welcome from start to finish by Thieng.
This association deserves to be supported because it supports several families and gives a chance to people with disabilities or difficult life paths.
The introductory pottery course is in English but this activity is understood very well through gestures.
I recommend it to families with children because they will be delighted to see Laotian children making small animals or an earthen pot.
The meal is very hearty, adapted to our taste buds and delicious.

Visiting Mr Thieng Lamphet pottery atelier, it is also discovering the craft of a whole village, where 7 ceramic artisan families try to remain, and transmit their beautiful craft heritage to next generations and visitors.
The workshop was great, i was taught very well, we visited the little ceramic pottery village, then we had a delicous and flavoury meal, home cooked !
I highly recommend to do the halfday workshop to fully understand and enjoy this family and local adventure. Great for kids too!

We had a fantastic time at Lao Pottery House. Gail welcomed us with a drink and explained the history of the village. She then showed us how to make pots on the wheel using traditional methods and we each made two pots, with very patient guidance. Before leaving we bought a couple of lovely pottery items which will be a lasting memory of a wonderful time in Ban Chan Neua village.
We travelled over by small private boat from the pier in Luang Prabang (behind the Royal Palace), a lovely 15 minute journey along the Mekong directly to Ban Chan Neua village.

Our trip to the Pottery House was so, so lovely!
Everything was arranged so well, which made our transportation to their pottery studio simple and worry-free. The story of how their business came to be is so inspiring, and the whole house was beautiful and restful. We enjoyed the pottery-making experience and hearing about the history of pottery making in that village. Our pottery teachers were friendly and helpful and willing to put in extra effort for us! Afterwards we explored the pottery village and saw beautiful handmade items and their creation by the locals. Finally we ended with a delicious dinner of traditional Lao food before heading back across the river.
It was a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend this experience! Great work done by great people who love and want to serve their community.

Mr Thieng the son in law n main visionary, is passionate about keeping n reviving the pottery tradition. He is also giving opportunities to the less fortunate to learn a new skill n perhaps in some cases reconnect with society. Altho his vision has been set back 3 yrs with the impact of covid on Lao tourism, it has not dampened his passion n enthusiasm. He n his team were gracious hosts n we learn about the village life n they the workshop, working with clay n our hands.

My husband and I visited for the 1 hour workshop where we got to make up to 2 pieces each. Our teachers, Phon and Sai Sa Na, were very friendly, encouraging and helpful as they guided us through each step. I was a little nervous that it would be really hard to manually turn the wheel and form the clay at the same time. Fortunately they do the turning for you so you can really focus on the clay. This was a wonderful experience and we didn’t want to leave! But we had to get back to our boat driver who was waiting to take us back down the river. Thank you so much for making this a wonderful experience we will always remember.

This is a hidden gem just outside of Luang Prabang. If you are in this area, you should definitely visit Lao Pottery House. Thieng gave us such a warm welcome into the village; teaching us about their history and taking us for a tour to see the other pottery making families in the village. We had a brilliant pottery making class followed by a delicious home cooked meal in Thieng’s home. Such a generous and kind family and so fun to learn more about pottery making in this region of the world. We had a fantastic time and couldn’t recommend this experience enough!

Fantastic place to visit if near Luang Probang, Laos. We were picked up from our hotel and taken via a beautiful boat trip to the pottery village. We witnessed the potters creating their pots, baking them in the kilns, an art that goes back 400 years. We were then given the opportunity to create a pot and a small animal, with teachers always close by to assist. After this we were given a Laos lunch with wonderful and plentiful hospitality. Thieng and his team were brilliant and made us all feel so welcome.

Made two pots one for grinding herbs and spices the other for holding candles and incense sticks. Took about an hour with tuition thrown in and it east great to think the wheel and simple tools were used in the same way hundreds of years ago.
The school also gives jobs to those that cannot get work due to disability of one form or another and it keeps this unique ancient craft alive in contrast to more lucrative pursuits.
A must visit to experience a rural and ancient traditional craft learning tradition.
