About Lao Pottery House
We are the Lamphet family. We provided half day pottery experience through the Lao Pottery House; it’s located in Ban Chan near Luang Prabang Laos. It’s our passion to preserve the history and tradition of our village. And pottery has been making in this village more than 400 years, but that way of life is slowly fading away. Fun and relaxing activity, you will hand-on clay with local expert. Our hope is to use these tours to preserve the tradition of our village and provide a sustainable way of life for families.

The Pottery House experience was first class right from hotel pick and riverboat ride through to the Pottery Village tour and hands on pot making. The guide and owner Mr Thieng was very friendly and knowledgeable and made our experience a most enjoyable one. The expert tutoring and support during the hands on pottery making was fantastic. The lunch prepared by his family was authentic, very well presented and delicious. Overall this experience was one we will remember for a long time. I wound highly recommend this tour.

We had a fun and informativ time at the Lao pottery house - a community embedded effort to upkeep and promote the traditional production of pottery near Luang Prabang. Adults and children were helped one on one to make their own bowl/cup. The food for lunch was excellent. The staff was very friendly and the owner speaks excellent English. Highly recommended!

Made two pots one for grinding herbs and spices the other for holding candles and incense sticks. Took about an hour with tuition thrown in and it east great to think the wheel and simple tools were used in the same way hundreds of years ago. The school also gives jobs to those that cannot get work due to disability of one form or another and it keeps this unique ancient craft alive in contrast to more lucrative pursuits. A must visit to experience a rural and ancient traditional craft learning tradition.

We did the half day pottery esperience and It was the best esperience we had in Luang Prabang by far. Everything was perfectly organized. Thieng, our guide, speaks a good english and told us a lot of interesting informations not only about pottery, but also about the village and the lao way of life. Something you can hardly get in other ways. We felt like at home during all the visit. Thieng and his team are really competent and smiling people and they taught us how to do pottery. After that we visited the village and we had the most amazing home made food we've ever tried in Laos! There is also a shop where if you want you can buy beautiful pottery and ceramic at very reasonable prices. Thieng's project is really interesting and involves local people and community, trying to preserve the art of pottery. Extra plus: a short pleasant cruise on the Mekong to get to the village. I highly reccomend this esperience! Don't miss it if you are in Luang Prabang. You will not regreat!
