My husband and I visited for the 1 hour workshop where we got to make up to 2 pieces each. Our teachers, Phon and Sai Sa Na, were very friendly, encouraging and helpful as they guided us through each step. I was a little nervous that it would be really hard to manually turn the wheel and form the clay at the same time. Fortunately they do the turning for you so you can really focus on the clay. This was a wonderful experience and we didn’t want to leave! But we had to get back to our boat driver who was waiting to take us back down the river. Thank you so much for making this a wonderful experience we will always remember.

Had great time doing my first ever pottery class with Lao Pottery House. What Thieng and his team doing to save this form of art is very much appreciating. I did the Half Day Pottery Experience which includes pick up and drop off at the hotel, village tour, pottery workshop and lunch (more details are available at their website). Minimum pax is 2, but if you are solo travelling then knock them 2-3ays before to say if they have any other learners to tag you along with them. Even if you can't do any workshop, at least visit their place to see or maybe buy some pretty ceramics at a lower price than any shops in big cities.

To borrow a phrase: "Just Do It!" I have never been one to sign-up for a crafty tour experience. What have I been missing?!? The day was absolutely, hands down, one of the best days I have had out on a tour. The communication with Thiang, the family owner, was timely and informative. Pick-up at the hotel in a tuk tuk - on time. The ride down to the Mekong to board the boat - perfect. The short ride down river for about 15 minutes delivered me to Thiang's village - a world removed from Luang Prabang. Thiang helped place the context of pottery making for this village in its 400 year context. He walked us through the village showing us the various steps of molding clay into pottery. We also visited the ten other village families who remain pottery makers, a craft that is dying and a craft which Lao Pottery House is trying to revive. We then had the opportunity to work with some clay and also to use a pottery wheel to craft a small item - with some strong guidance and tutelage from a local potter. Did I make a glamorous bowl? Nope. Did I make my first piece of pottery? I can proudly say "YES." If you like, your creation can be fired, glazed (for a slight additional fee), and shipped to you (for a fee). And if you don't want to bother with that, no worries. If you want to find some wonderful pottery, Lao Pottery House is a needed stop. What is impressive is the effort that Thiang is taking to help this village continue a beautiful craft. It does take a village. The day concluded with a tasty lunch served traditional Lao style. All in all, a glorious day. I walked away smiling.

After a small trip down the Mekong to arrive in a traditional pottery village that has been making pottery for the king 400 years ago. Underground wood fire kiln, clay mine, hand turned pottery making, a truly preserved site. We had the half day option including hands on the wheel, followed by a superb Lao lunch. A magical experience, not to be missed for pots lovers. Thieng the owner & tour guide spoke excellent English and was very professional.

We borrowed bikes and took them across the ferry and road in. It was beautiful, road was quiet and we were able to hop off and walk but really only needed to at the ferry where there is a steep hill. The lessson was casual and fun, the people working there were lovely we really enjoyed the experience.

We loved this half day tour/pottery class. Theing was an excellant guide and his pottery studio/ home is beautiful. We learned so much about the history of pottery making, the families involved and the impact pottery has had on this village. It’s also important to note that Theing is doing so much for his community through this business in terms of getting young people involved and bringing business to the area. I would highly recommend this tour and pottery class to everyone coming to Luang Prabang!

I highly recommend going there!!! The business is run by a family and some locals from their village and they are incredibly friendly. The atmosphere is really familiar and you get plenty of patient help if you are not a natural talent in pottery ;). Afterwards, you can talk and enjoy some delicious fruits and tee. It was one of my best experiences in Lunag Prabang

What an amazing and unforgettable experience! Our half-day tour included pleasant cruises to and from the village, an insightful tour about Ban Chan and its pottery-making process from clay collection to kilns and finished products. And of course, the fun and interesting pottery lesson was another highlight!
Thieng's mission at Lao Pottery House is very inspiring, and everyone in his team is kind and knowledgeable! The food was lovely and we loved the local flavours. We left with many reasonably priced trinkets handmade by village locals. :)
Heartfelt thanks to Thieng and everyone in Ban Chan Nua.
If you are in Luang Prabang, don’t miss this!
