Description:

Tamarind Restaurant in Luang Prabang offers day and evening cooking classes...

Tamarind Restaurant in Luang Prabang offers day and evening cooking classes in open air pavilions overlooking lily ponds just outside of town. Participants in day classes are taken there after a visit to the fascinating main market, where they are introduced to the unusual and intriguing ingredients that are the basis of Lao cuisine. From there it is off to Tamarind Gardens to cook Lao dishes in the authentic Lao style. Evening classes are shorter. Individual work stations allow you to follow the instructions of an entertaining and informative Lao teacher, whilst a bevy of staff clean up after you. The sessions end with a sumptuous meal, where you eat the fruits of your labours! Transport to and from Tamarind Restaurant and recipe book all included. Vegetarians welcome.

This is a great cooking class and our chef Sit was terrific, professional, clear, with quite a sense of humor. Our day started with a tour of the colorful Phosi Market. Then we followed bumpy dirt roads to the school, situated in a lovely setting in the countryside. The chicken in lemongrass "baskets" was a highlight as was the purple... More

My girlfriend and I did a cooking class at Tamarind to get insight into Lao cuisine. We had a lot of fun thanks to our teacher Sit who was funny and entertaining. The dish we cooked were very tasty, we prepared tomato and eggplant jeows, chicken stuffed lemongrass, fish in bananaleaves and black sticky rice. After the class we got... More

I signed up for the full- day (9- 3) course. The day started with a quick ride to a local market where our instructor for the day, Sit, walked us through the various ingredients we were going to be using as well as other local vegetables, different types of rice, and the meats. We then continued on to their cooking... More

The day started at a local market with Sit, our chef. He was fantastic, very knowledgeable and able to answer all questions. From there we continued to the cooking school which was 20 mins away. We cooked 5 dishes such as steamed fish in banana leaves, stuffed lemongrass, buffalo salad and purple sticky rice with easy instructions. Each dish was... More

I really enjoyed this class. The instructor was great, the venue was beautiful, food was delicious! I told them I was vegetarian beforehand, so I learned how to make a veggie version of each dish! Thank you, Tamarind.

This is such a wonderful way to be introduced to Lao food and culture. Our instructor, Sit, was wonderful. He explained everything clearly and was incredibly helpful. We did the full day tour and visited the market which is an experience in and of itself. If you're in Luang Prabang and have some time, this is a great activity!! We... More

Started with a great market tour where Sit our guide and chef explained and introduced us to local products. He answered all our questions and we got to taste a few specialities. Then on to a lovely location for the cooking class. This was delightful. I have done many cooking classes and they can be disappointing as you only get... More

Amazing experience, extremely well planned and Joy was really informative and very helpful. The trip to the market was so good, we even had the chance to try some of the local snacks. The cooking class was in the most beautiful surroundings and the recopies were easy to follow and very tasty. I would definitely recommend Tamarind

I'm not a cook, but my friends visiting convinced me to go to a cooking school for a day. It was amazing. This was one of the best experiences I've had in Southeast Asia. We all met at the main restaurant in town at 9 and started with a short trip to the largest open and wet market in Luang... More
