Description:

Tamarind Restaurant in Luang Prabang offers day and evening cooking classes...

Tamarind Restaurant in Luang Prabang offers day and evening cooking classes in open air pavilions overlooking lily ponds just outside of town. Participants in day classes are taken there after a visit to the fascinating main market, where they are introduced to the unusual and intriguing ingredients that are the basis of Lao cuisine. From there it is off to Tamarind Gardens to cook Lao dishes in the authentic Lao style. Evening classes are shorter. Individual work stations allow you to follow the instructions of an entertaining and informative Lao teacher, whilst a bevy of staff clean up after you. The sessions end with a sumptuous meal, where you eat the fruits of your labours! Transport to and from Tamarind Restaurant and recipe book all included. Vegetarians welcome.

I'm not a cook, but my friends visiting convinced me to go to a cooking school for a day. It was amazing. This was one of the best experiences I've had in Southeast Asia. We all met at the main restaurant in town at 9 and started with a short trip to the largest open and wet market in Luang... More

Starts with a visit to the market and then they take you to the cooking school a short drive out of town in a beautiful jungle/lakeside setting. Learn to cook several dishes and then for lunch eat what you've cooked! The organisation is terrific with people clearing up and restocking your work benches with smooth efficiency.

Fabulous experience, we learned lots of things about the food from the market experience. Had a few tastes of dried snacks, all natural. The cooking was very authentic not changed for western taste but you can adapt the ingredients as you go ie less chillies, no bile, or even less quantities. The chef is very professional and there are wonderful... More

We arrived an interactive cooking class. We learnt more about sticky rice, and making fish and chicken dishes. I especially liked the fish dish cooked in banana leaves. Though the leaves can be substituted with cabbage leaf or a bell pepper. Thank you for a good clasd

The Tamarind cooking course was wonderful! Located outside of the city (which they provide transportation to), you are taught how to prepare yummy, authentic Laos food. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our time spent here.

My husband, sixteen year old daughter and I are just back from a great cooking class at Tamarind which started at 9am and finished at 2.30pm. We started with a tour of the fresh vegetables, spices, meat and fish at Phousi Market where our friendly cooking instructor, Sit explained about the local herbs and vegetables used in Lao cooking. We... More
