Directions; from the end of the night market road (Post Office end) turn left at the cross roads. Straight on until you reach 'T' junction then turn right. Go straight on out of town for about 4Km's and turn right where sign posted 'Tad Thong Waterfall' for a further 2.8Km's.The 500 hectare Tad Thong Nature Conservation area is easily accessible by Tuk Tuk, Car, Scooter, bicycle (geared preferably) or, for the more enthusiastic, on foot.Tad Thong is just 6km’s from Luang Prabang and offers a unique, paved, approx. 45 minute walk through dense jungle. For years the path has been hidden away from the public but is now open again for you to experience the beauty of the natural jungle and huge trees that once covered much of the land in this part of Asia. There is a Khmu village just off the trail which can be visited and when you have finished the walk you may wish to take a swim in the lake or eat and drink at the Restaurant. The waterfalls are spring fed, as are many of the falls in the area, and will reduce in size to just a trickle by the end of the dry season - but the Tad Thong area is more impressive as a Nature Jungle walk so the waterfalls should be looked at as a bonus and not the main reason for visiting.

Rent a scooter. Easy directions (at the round-about, turn right, then QUICK left up the hill). Need to take a river boat (small charge) to other side of river.

Located some 6km from Luang Prabang town, the Tad Thong Waterfall is a great place to hike. After going through the little jungle, you will uncover a natural refreshing pool.

I last went there some years ago and it was very pleasant and well kept. Now it is run down and needs a good clean up and its buildings repaired. We were about the only visitors and the guy running it either could not, or would not serve any food or drink. if you go...best to take a picnic,

Really beautiful waterfall and pools make a really refreshing place for a dip, especially if you are there in the oppressive heat of summer! Lovely area to look at too, really serene. Not far from the town, it makes a perfect half day trip.

lovely setting only ruined by endless visitors splashing around in the water. I'd go early to avoid the rush or just being your swimsuit and join them!

I cycled here completely by accident. I picked a main road south to ride for a while and then saw a sign on the right advertising the falls. Up a dirt road for 2.8km and it will cut to the right with a large sign. It costs 20,000 to get in. No tourists, only saw locals here. The bike ride... More

Waterfalls just outside Luang Prabang. Don't mix up with Tat Sae waterfalls! Nice and quiet. Little opportunity to swim, in fact hardly at all. There should be a 45 minute trail to walk to the two separate falls, but the path is slippery, blocked by fallen trees and partially missing bridges. It took twice as much time to complete the... A really beautiful place for a swim. A must see in the area a shortish ride away from Luang Prabang.

Just went there yesterday. No waterfall not even smallest stream. All is dry. Though they still sell you ticket for 10.000 (down at the lake). All i could find small bamboo pipe for locals to wash. Scam as everything in over touristic Luang.

I rented a mountain bike in LP and cycled here. Easy enough to find, out road 13 going south after ~5km then there's a sign to the right before the green fuel station saying its 2.8km on a dirt road. 45 min loop track was pleasant, paved but broken up. Went for a dip in the closest waterfall, maybe 2... More
