Beautiful park in the middle of the city

I visited this park in the dead of winter in January, so it wasn't very crowded. But it offers an array of trails and beautiful views of the surrounding area.

The park IS an island with a number of trails. You can walk every one during one visit. It's very close by to the Alpena Ramada - close enough to walk to. And you will see nature, but in a pretty controlled environment. Worth a visit!

Excellent natural beauty, in an island park located right in Alpena, Michigan city limits. Well-marked trails, as well as a tower and covered bridge make this park a llocal favorite.

Love this little gem of Alpena. Beautiful bridge and water tower with nice gardens. Great place to walk and hike for river, duck and swan views. Very quiet and peaceful.

I've spent a lot of time here and enjoyed every minute of it. You can get reasonably close to swans and other waterfowl, and the river view is amazing

My husband and I are birders. We went to this Sanctuary to see what there was to see. It offered not only good birding opportunities but was, as well, a pleasant place to take a walk. Nicely done!

While driving through Alpena, my husband & I noticed this picturesque covered bridge and had to stop and see it. We didn’t have any problem finding a parking space in the paved parking lot (entrance is off Long Rapids Road). Entrance to this City-owned park is free. The relatively new (2015) covered bridge is the entrance to Island Park. This... More

The new bridge is very nice. They don't allow bikes...you must walk. But it's an easy walk with many paths that go off the main path. It was fun exploring!
