This was the best thing to happen to us...enjoyed the trek through the forests at first, and we then came across aome amazing sculptures. Ended with a bath in the waterfalls. This place is a must-do for all travellers who visit Siem Reap.

I hired a private car to see 4 of the temples that are out of Siem Reap, Kbal Spean was one of them. You need to walk on/up/down uneven ground (dirt, tree roots, rocks etc) for 1.5km each way, which makes you quite hot and...More

Went to visit Kbal Spean in April, during the dry season. Took a 2 hour journey out of town, and took around 30mins to reach the TOP where the carvings were. We were expecting a huge waterfall where we could swim in, but the waterfall...More

As you make your way up the hillside, drink plenty of water and don't brave it, take breaks. On reaching the river I wondered why it would be a good thing if it was running full. All the carvings would be hidden from view. In...More

Like many others, we found Kabul Spean to be a nice break from the temples. The hike to the stream was challenging but fun. The carvings in the stream bed were very interesting. My top 3 memories of Siem Reap are Angkor Wat, Ta Phrom,...More

We read many good recommendations about Kbal Spean as a nice break from the temples in Siem Reap, but were very disappointed. March is the dry season, so there was very little water and what was there we were told was not clean enough to...More

The site of a 1000 lingas only comes after walking primarily uphill for 1.5 km through a dusty and uneven path. So be ready for over an hour of that but then it is worth it. The carvings and history of what the kings and...More

It takes a good hour to walk up the 1.5 km to the top. Once there it is quite amazing to see all the carvings and would be even more so in the wet season as the river was low so they were mostly exposed...More

This was a different visit from every other temple in Siem Reap. First, this is not a temple and you will sweat your shirt off to get to see it. In order to get there you have to hike a 1500 m uneven rocky uphill...More

Only for those who enjoy hiking. Otherwise it was a disappointment. There was hardly a waterfall and the water that was there was dirty. So i could not clearly view the Lingga sculptures. Seemed quite forgotten.

No, but it would be quite hot and tiring. PLUS from the base of the hill you have to climb anyway. And that is for at least 45 minutes. So it's preferable to hire a car.
