There were a several well off families in Punta Arenas at one time as evidenced by some extroardinary mausoleums in this cemetery. It is well worth the visit if you have an hour to kill.

Old cemetry a short walk outside of the city center - many old trees stand amongst it, but you won't really miss out by not going

It is usefull to study the map of the cemetary beforehand... I struggled to find the Indiecito for instance. Otherwise, it is a nice, peaceful place.

Regular daytime hours all days. The cemetery is used frequently by locals and we saw a brief service there while waiting for a taxi. Worth the visit since we don't have anything like this in Ontario Canada. Good for two... More

Yes - but it is a longer walk. We hiked everywhere, so it was no problem for us in the downtown area. Even if you walk slowly, it is a worthwhile visit for Canadians who have not seen this type of monumental cemetery.
