Xiamen University, conceived and funded by Singapore-based local boy Tan Kah Kee, boasts several buildings in the unique "Chinese Art Deco" or Ming Revival style - buildings featuring Chinese roofs and decoration, but with the streamlined proportions of Art Deco. It's a beautifully landscaped campus, and open to the public - the main entrance features a palm-tree lined walkway, giving... More

Went to the university, Furong tunnel, and Nanputuo temple all in the same day and really enjoyed the entire time. Earlier posting said no entry before 5:00 PM but I strolled in about 1200 on a Friday with no issues and no charge. Just make sure you have your passport!!! Lovely grounds and plenty to see plus lots of places... More

It is among the most recommended places to visit when in Xiamen. However, access to the campus is only allowed to visitors after 5pm and they charge a minimal fee (not sure how much). I was not able to get inside so I ended up by the main entrance gate.

The university covers a large area in Xiamen. Many businesses around this area somehow as some connection with the University for example selling text books, computors, etc.

Xiamen University is so gorgeous that you wish you attended uni here. Lovely 1920s/50s buildings built from local stone with donations from Mr. Tan Kah Kee (Chen Jiageng in Mandarin), an ethnic Hakka man from Fujian Province who was dedicated to education in both Fujian and Malaya (Malaysia), utilizing the fortune he made in the rubber business. The exhibition at... More

There is always a line queing to enter the premises. But you can cut through with some helps from the locals right in front of the entrance. They will approach you and advice how to get in without having to wait. Of course you need someone who speaks Chinese at this point.

Xiamen University seems to be one of the most common tourist destinations in Xiamen. Voted the most beautiful campus in China, it's easy to understand why people would want to visit. What is difficult to understand is why soooooo many people choose to visit the campus - even those with no history with the university. The campus is beautiful and... More

The campus of Xiamen University (厦门大学) or XiaDa (廈大) as the locals called it is a beautiful attraction with tended gardens, pristine lakes, and plenty of quirky attractions. As a student here at 廈大 I am constantly amazed at how beautiful a place it is to be. Since the typhoon back in September there has been substantial damage to the... More
