Ironic that the very week I visited a fort used to defend (and retaliate) against its nearby enemy at the time (Taiwan -- only 300 km off the coast of Xiamen), a Chinese warship got within striking distance of Taiwan and made them a bit...More

Xiamen Hulishan Fortress was a fascinating visit for me and well worth you checking out. Located at the very southern end of Xiamen Island and has (naturally) some excellent views of the surrounding waterways. Great preservation of the original fort features including cannon, guns, structures....More

Hulishan Fort is beautiful seaside attraction that allows visitors a glimpse into the history of Xiamen Island. For only 24元 one can enjoy well tended gardens and view old artillery canons, or take a walk to the highest points to look out over the sea....More

Nicely managed and sculpted sight with many cannons include the giant Krupp canon. Great for history buffs. Nice views of the surrounding beaches and town from here.

Huli Hill Fort on the beach behind XMU, has long been considered the door of Xiamen. The Hulishan Cannon platform is divided into three parts, the battlement area, the barracks area, and the back mountain area. The structure is semi-blockhouse and semi- city wall, with...More

The star of this fort are the two massive cannons used during the war against the Japanese. Otherwise, this place is a nice lookout point for the sea and beyond. If you're interested in the history of Xiamen and its fight against the Japanese before,...More

The port on the island is facing the mainland. I suppose the cruise ship terminal is also there (Donggang Rd.), then it is about 10km to the Hulishan Fort. May take up to 30 minutes depending on the traffic (by taxi).
