This is one of Shenzhen’s gems and is not to be missed. There are traveling exhibits from across the country, fascinating historical displays, and interactive media presentations about both China’s and Shenzhen’s history.

I just happened to see this museum as I was walking around the city and decided to go check it out, especially as it was free. Since Shenzhen is a modern city, it was interesting to see the history and development of the city.
We went at the end of our trip, so we'd already visited many of China's world class museums, but this didn't measure up. It was ok for us on a rainy day, but it's not worth a special trip. The gift shop was didn't have...More
This museum in Shenzhen is reasonably new being the city itself is only 40 years old. The history of the overall development of Shenzhen as a Special Economic Zone in such a short period of time in extremely interesting. The various sections of the museum...More
Very good museum, and free. Visiting this museum will give you a good background in Shenzhen history. Also can see porcelain, an exotic animal section, gift shops, a tea shop. Exit B from Shimin Zhongxin Subway Station (Line 2 or Line 4), then cross the...More

If I remember correctly you have english signs and you can also have an audio tour in English, at least for the permanent exhibition about Shenzhen history. It's a great first step when you come visiting Shenzhen.

Civic centre Exit C. As you come out, you will see the massive building in front of you. Take the crosswalk to your left and right on the other side. Left at the end of the building and you will see the entrance in your left.
