Do not be fool by some taxi drivers offering trip to this place without having to pay for entrance fees. They'll probably showed you nearby and view the statue from behind without going into the place.

Visited the Museum and was most impressed with displays etc. Most had English translations and showed how Hainan Island is what it is today. You need your passport for entry. Well worth the visit.

The museum enhance my awareness of history of Hainan island and different cultures of the early inhabitants. Allows me to appreciate the sights and sounds better when travelling around the island after. A good place to start for those interested in knowing more about the people of Hainan.

Secure entry to the museum is maintained so you will need photo ID so have your passport handy. The exhibits are well laid out and very informative in particular educational on the various tribal, ethnic and religous cultures. There were some sections closed having new displays set up. You cannot go to Haikou without making the journey to the museum.... More

The building and exhibits are nice. However, the Air Conditioning is insufficient. So we go to the vendor machine for a cold drink and found out the vendor machines are not properly maintained to provide cold drink but hot coke. The staffs at the shops are not helpful and the management should put some discipline there.

The descriptions of pieces in the permanent exhibitions are minimalist but the docents are well educated. You will need to either speak Chinese or bring a translator.
