A Brief Description of the Lingering Garden Located at the outer side of the Chang Gate and built in the 21st year of the reign of Wanli under the Ming Dynasty (AD 1593), the Lingering Garden is reputed to be one of the four most famous gardens of China. In 1961 it was listed from the very first as cultural relics of national importance. Since 1997 it has been inscribed on the World Cultural Heritage List. The Lingering Garden, covering 23,310 sq.m., is divided into the middle, eastern, western and northern parts. The middle part features fascinating landscapes and waterscapes. The eastern part is noted for its architectural beauties and limestone rockeries. The northern part is famed for its beautiful bonsai garden. And the western part boasts the mountain forest scenery and the delights of wilderness. Celebrated for its superb handling of architectural space and spatial relations, the Lingering Garden serves as a fine specimen of ancient Chinese garden and landscape design and reputably tops all the well-known gardens in Suzhou. The Lingering Garden provides English tour guide for free every hour since 2017. You can also choose to pay for a professional English guide with different guiding route or a guiding machine. Hope that during your short stay here, you can not only satisfy your eyes, but also experience the real Chinese culture and have a better understanding of our philosophy.

I visited Suzhou in June 2017. The Lingering Garden was the fourth classical Chinese garden that I visited. It is a beautiful garden and place for quiet reflection. Like the Master-of-Nets Garden, it also has many Chinese artifacts. To get here from the Master-of-Nets Garden...More

My friend and I chose this garden over the humble administrators as it fit in with our schedule better whilst being in Suzhou and other things we wanted to see and do that day. Have to say we think we may have made the wrong...More

It was elegant, beautiful and the design is stunning. It's a pity that most of the furnitures are gone and the inside of the house are almost empty. we visited the place in rainy weather which made it even more poetic. Definitely recommend

Walked along narrow paths around strange rock formations and ponds. Crowded, which made passing difficult as the paths are uneven and narrow. Plants and grasses looked very tired and scraggly. Highlight was the bonsai trees but not much else.

We visited the Lingering Gardens as part of our Nexus tour. It is absolutely beautiful. But be prepared for crowds, lots of tourists and school groups. The lake had a boat with a man playing a flute which added to the tranquil atmosphere. There is...More

Old Chinese architecture with this fantastic rock and water garden full of Koi fish. Walk around study the old house, imagine living there with servants running around. Feed the Koi and just unwind

What a lovely place to visit. Very relaxing and interesting plants, ponds, buildings and architecture. You can't help but feel the atmosphere this garden creates. They also had a large range of Bonsai trees, even the King Bonsai which was 450 years old. Well worth...More

Maybe I went to the wrong entrance or something, but all I found here was the mucky remains of a pond and some dry grass. Check out tiger hill or master of nets garden instead.

Despite the number of people who were also visiting the garden, in some parts of the garden you have the feeling that you are almost alone there. There are several sections to cover and many surprises await you behind every turn and corner. Definitely worth...More

Yes, it probably does. Same here, I'm not exactly sure how much as we visited it as part of an organized tour. It's a beautiful garden, well worth a visit.
