Cruise ships are a great way to visit places, some few warranting return for deeper drinks. Cartagena is such a place. Our guided bus tour yielded a wonderful history and orientation to Cartagena. Our first stop was the plaza of the Castillo San Felipe de...More

During daytime very nice, though making it car free would make it even better. At night hookers, charlatans and other dubious gents will try to get your attention. Never felt unsafe (saying this as a man) but it lost some charm because of that.

What a treasure! Wandering around the walled city so full of vibrant colours and sound. Great spot for restaurants, entertainment.

Authentic old world city. Nothing fake about it. If you want to get the feel (a bit claustrophobic to me) of what a city was 500 years ago this place will do it. A lot of the streets are dedicated to looting tourists via quaint...More

This was my first time in Cartagena. It was total cultural immersion for me. I found the walled city to be utterly charming, very old and people very much tried to please. The best bet is to walk the streets with no plan in mind...More

The old, walled part of the city is filled with beautiful examples of colonial architecture. If you haven't been to an old, colonial city before, you'll absolutely love it. But if you've already seen several examples of old, colonial cities, Cartagena isn't particularly unique. Beautiful,...More

We did our tour through a company called Dora the Explorer. Terrific tour guide, and very knowledgeable about the history and culture. Lots to see, but very very hot. Don't forget a hat, sunscreen and water.

Hello! I don't if it's helpful, but there is a Sephardi Synagogue called the "Centro Israelita Sefardí de Cartagena". I've never been and don't know it it's a "sight", but if your interested it's located in: calle 29a... More
Were you on a cruise ship? We'll be in the port for only 6 hours and are debating taking a cruise sponsored excursion or taking a cab or something into the old town and doing it on our own. Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't pay for a tour. The old city is small enough to walk. Use trip advisor and open the map. It will tell you where all the things you may want to see are. Hint, Museo de Oro, the gold museum is the coldest AC in... More
