Pleasant walk to get to this place, then an enjoyable swim once you get here. Lots of people here but an easygoing vibe - people looking out for each other, helping each other out of the water, lots of photos and videos of folks making the plunge. Fun. Water temperature refreshing, a little cool but you could stay in a... More

While most of our time in the Galapagos (ALL of which was wonderful) was spent either doing hikes in very hot humid weather or swimming/snorkeling in salt water, La Grietas was a chance to cool off in a fascinating lava-formed ravine, and have a swim without feeling salt stuck all over us afterwards. Not the the beaches weren't GORGEOUS (they... More

Catch a taxi boat across the bay to the beginning of the walking track and then enjoy the change of scenery as you head towards Las Grietas. On arrival enjoy a swim or just take in the beautiful surroundings. Don't miss the walk around the top to see the huge cactus and the wonderful views down onto the pools and... More

This is really less than a km walk from the water taxi drop off. Not much to see on the walk but this fracture is amazing. We got there around 2 PM and stayed for 30 minutes. That was when the tours and crowds arrived. the water is amazingly cook and refreshing. Definitely don't need a guide.

One would need to take a water taxi for $.8 to get through the bay (5 minutes) and walk about 20 minutes through some interesting places. There are lots of birds and iguanas along the way, and a place to harvest salt. The body of water between the cliffs is extremely clear, exposing the large fish swimming. It is quite... More

Very neat crevice between two rock faces where the water is crystal clear and great for snorkeling though there is not much marine life. However, the water is very cold so prepare yourself

To get from Puerto Ayora to Las Grietas you start with an aqua taxi ride across the harbour, 80c pp/p way. Once you arrive on the far side of the harbour, you head for Playa de los Alemanes (German Beach). This is a 5-10 minute walk directly along the footpath at the head of the dock. For Las Grietas you... More

It is a small lagoon between huge rocks. Better swim in the bay just before you arrive in Grietas. Lots of locals use it as a piscina. The water is freh, clean and deep. No fishes to see. Snorkeling is not interesting.

Gorgeous saline swimming hole, crystal clear water. The geology is stunning. This is a fissure in which tidal waters enter through the rocks. There are a few large trapped parrotfish & snappers. A very nice wooden stairway leads down into water, making it easy to enter for a brisk swim.

La Grietas is accessed by a 15 minute walk from the pier head adjacent to Playa de los Alemanes. It is a natural deep ravine filled with salt water. It is good for snorkelling with good viewing opportunity for fish. Initially there is a 100m stretch of water, it is then possible to climb over some rocks before accessing a... More
