We chose this park for convenience, not for the park itself. We liked it so much that we extended our stay. It's a great location for exploring the area. It's close to Alamogordo for supplies. The park itself is really pleasant - in the Chihuahuan desert at the base of Dog Canyon. The campsites are well spaced and have great... More

Though it is a bit tough to level out at some campsites, the view is worth the trouble. Absolutely gorgeous area and full hookups are available, W/E/S. No cable or wifi, though we picked up local tv stations. Quiet as can be and parking spots are not close together at all. A really nice get-away!

The park visitor center has a nice collection of artifacts and interpretive displays that tell the history of the area, specifically Dog Canyon. The nature trail winds along the creekbed with shade from cottonwoods - a very pretty area. For the adventurous, there's a hike up to the canyon walls, but it's not for the casual visitor. Nice campground area... More

It's relatively small but has some nice trails and campsites. The volunteers are friendly and the park is kept clean. I was not impressed with the shower pressure/function but the bathrooms were clean. There isn't much shade, making tent camping uncomfortable with the New Mexico sun...

On our way from San Diego County to Dallas, Texas we stopped here for 4 nights and, if we weren't on a schedule, I could have stayed longer. Beautiful views, beautiful trails, beautiful stars, nice large sites. There is nothing bad I can say about this campground. The sites are far apart with plenty of room for children and pets.... Very clean, large campsites. Many are walk-ups, only a few are reservable it's about 9 miles from Alamogordo, but still provides very easy access to the White Sands Monument and the Missile Centre. There are a couple of nice hikes right in the park, beautiful scenery, several different cacti, road runners, and really beautiful sunsets. Great place to hang out.

This is only a small park, though it does have a few hiking trails and a small visitor centre. The campground seems to be very popular as it's a small one, and it's location makes it pretty quiet, not to mention the great views in the area. The volunteer in the visitor centre was very helpful in giving me some... More

Oliver Lee Memorial State Park is about 15 miles south of Alamogordo, NM on US 54. From the highway it is about 4 miles to the park on a two-lane secondary road, so don’t give up. This is a well-kept and pleasant park. The gravel walkway to the showers and toilets is lit at night with columns of indirect lighting.... More

What a wonderful little park! We camped here 2 nights and absolutely loved it. It's quiet even though you're only 4 miles from a major road and the views of the canyon and of White Sands are amazing! The bathrooms are clean (well, the women's bathroom was very clean, my boyfriend said the men's bathroom was gross and riddled with... More
