The long walk to the lake could bother you a bit but the view of the lake makes it all worthwhile. Make sure to book the boating ride which is actually a cruise to have a closer look as the arrogant security guard will not let you take even a step closer to the gate if you don't hVe a... More

i visited last month as i was staying in periyar house i got the boat tickets from there but the boating was boring as animal sighting was minimal , to explore thekkady better to try any community based eco tour programmes , i wish to try them next time.

The approximately two hour boat ride is good (that too the first 7.30 am ride) when the chances of sighting wildlife is best. However, this is OK for general tourist. But for Nature lovers and specially for Wildlife/Bird Photographers there must be some better/special arrangement (like a Safari Ride) where the trips can start much earlier say 6.00 am with... The online ticketing system was a joke and the monkeys will try and grab your stuff but the boat ride on the lake made up for it. We took the 1115 boat and We saw 2 elephant families in Separate locations at the side of the water and later in the water. It was fantastic. We also saw deer, bison,... More

If you're expecting to see Tigers you're most likely going to be disappointed, if you want to see birds, butterflies, monkeys, deer, giant squirrels and loads more flora and fauna you'll love it. But don't drive through the main gate, walk from there to the boat jetty(3km?) via the self guided pug route, the wildlife was amazing.

Don't expect to see tigers. The last one seen was a month ago. But during the leisurely cruise we saw elephants, wild boar, deer and lots of different birds. The knowledgeable onboard guides are quick to spot and point out anything of interest in time for you to focus your camera. You might be lucky enough to have our guide... More
