We went twice to this temple - once in the morning and again in the evening. I was really glad to have visited at different times as the atmosphere was completely different. It was very full of life and hustle and bustle in the morning, and it was candle lit and beautifully peaceful in the evening. There isn't a huge... More

Usual chaotic loveliness of an Indian temple but more than the usual demands for money. The very cheap 20 rupees entry is fine but lots of hassle from the moment you take your shoes off to give a little more money: for offerings, donations etc. Small amounts and not too difficult to pass off but all detract from what should... Beware of a woman with a type of violin. She beckoned us over and we assumed she was official since she was in the temple. She asked our names, sang a song and then demanded money. We later realised she wasn't linked to the temple and it was a bit of a con.

It is a very old temple with architecture which dates back to many centuries....The main Idol is Lord Vishnu(Janardhanaswamy)....The history of the temple is also very interesting.Like most of the temples in Kerala the males should remove their shirt as a part of religious practice.....The atmosphere here will give a very good vibe and there is pond down the steep... Always appreciate a visit to this temple. It's a good place to get out of constant beach scene. Excellent older a architecture and use of building materials. Try to light as many candles as you can, leave donation of course. Enjoy

I visited the temple yesterday at around 5pm - I asked if it was ok to take photographs and a man there said I had to pay 250 rupees to do so..... He then escorted me around the temple and then asked for more money? I walked away from him and never saw him afterwards...... It is a beautiful place... More

Felt very good visiting here. A 2000 years old temple! Must place to visit. Men need to remove shirts inside the temple.

We visited at dusk, when local Hindus had lit up hundreds of little candles around the temple. We were allowed to watch the ritual (though non-Hindus cannot enter the temple itself). Very special experience.
