While we had been planning going to Avalanche Dam halfway there a taxi told us the dam had been closed for maintenance. Hotels i the city apparently have no communication regarding the same! At least ours did (Tea Nest, Coonoor). So we tried to get permission at the Emerald Dam office to let us visit the Lake. They said no.... More

Drive up here: 11°19'44.7"N 76°36'51.8"E It's the coordinates of the bridge that links both the Emerald and Avalanche lakes. These are among the very few not so spoilt places across the Nilgiris. Drving direction - While driving from Ooty, stick on to MDR 1071 (via Fern Hill) and don't let Google Maps fool around with you!

While driving from Ooty, Emerald lake comes first. This place is close and ahead of Avalanche. If the water level would have been fair enough, the beauty of the lake would have been very very good. Unfortunately due to very low water level, the lake's beauty dropped.

We had a great time and were well taken care of from start to finish. Amazing! Beautiful view of the lake. Never ending natures beauty , a sight one can't miss , its crystal clear water is pure and transparent . Many shades of water can be observed depending on the position of the sun!

This is lake location is a must visit for every traveler. Once at the location you have to take a jeep or bus to get o the view point. The ride is a little rough but the view is out of this world

Emerald Lake is some 25 km from Ooty and is a very beautiful peaceful place to visit with family and friends. Good Picnic spot too. Birds and duck can be seen here.

A nice getaway for couples during monsoons. Blue waters, fenced with a brown muddy shoreline, misty weather, tall trees, and not a single living creature in sight. Our heart just skipped a beat.

It is on the way to Avalanche, if you have plan to go Avalanche then only go to this place else it is not worth. You can’t go to the lake or dam it is restricted place by TNEB. You can take few photos from outside.

My husband and I had read about how pretty the Emerald Lake is on TripAdvisor and decided to visit this place during our trip to Ooty. It took us about 1.5 hours to reach the lake because we ended up asking the locals for directions - it turned out that Google maps was accurate (or maybe there was another road... More

Nice little backdrop of misty mountains and those little houses adjoining the lake but unfortunately it was half dry when we visited. Nevertheless, an absolutely tranquil location!
