Very beautiful temple, location in the center of Ubud, close to Ubud palace and market. Good for photos, walking with your partner, there is an entry ticket.

Gorgeous, free temple in the middle of Ubud town, quite near the Palace and Ubud Market (literally next to Starbucks). The two lotus ponds anchor the temple which has a middle walkway so quite a photogenic site. Tip - go early to avoid the crowd. We were there at 8:30-9am in the morning and when we arrived, we were the only ones there. When we left, there were quite a few people coming in. Worth a stop as the detail/carvings on the stone are quite intricate. We also heard that the site hosts shows at night.

So this place gets very, very crowded as it’s on the ‘Bali instagram’ tour offered by most cab drivers. Shame because it is a truly lovely place and the lotus pond is spectacular (if in bloom) It’s free to enter so I’d say drop in as you are passing!

This temple has been privatized. But, you can get nice pictures from the outside of the temple; there is a very beautiful lotus pond outside of it. It is very near to the Ubud Palace and Ubud Street Market; much walking is needed, so it is not very friendly for people who can’t walk.

Lovely setting for photos with a lotus pond in front and temple background. Can get too crowded with selfie takers, though.

On the main street of Ubud, this place is easy to find. It's free - just walk right in and take photos. There's not a whole lot here but it does look cool. Don't expect to spend too much time here.

Hidden behind a Starbucks, just metres from the busiest street in Ubud, this is a lovely, free escape from the noise and the crowds and the traffic.
The grounds are not huge, but the temple is impressive, and the real star here is the water lily pond right out front.
There is a cafe in the grounds if you need a drink or a meal, but if you just want a nice rest, or some lovely photos, there is no need to pay.

This is one of very few temples we decided to visit in Ubud. We did not have a guide, so we lost it’s interesting history.
My wife spent there some time for photo shooting.

This Temple has water lily's surrounding it. It is behind Starbacks in the city centre of Ubud. Not many people mentions this temple but it is unique in my opinion. It is not a large temple but different view by day and by night is even more fantastic. A must go if you swing by Starbucks for a drink!

this is the only temple that has free entrance. someone outside of the gate trying to sell ticket, do not buy it. We almost made the mistake paying for the tickets.

Hello. I'm trying to get idea of if there is anything at back of temple to see or if the temple itself (which I assume is large building everyone photographs) is the main area to visit. Also, is the temple itself ever open to foreign visitors with proper dress? And does the performance in the evening go on in December and if so, is it likely to be impacted by rain?

Hi Roothy 123, I was there in December last year and the weather was perfect. It sometimes rain but usually at night. There's a lot of performances everywhere in and around Ubud, so you probably just need to see what's on at the time you're there.
I believe what you see from the Café Lotus, is the main part of the temple. It says somewhere you need a sarong etc to visit, but so far I haven't seen anyone wearing it to visit the ground. I also read there are guided tours, so maybe that could be an option for you. Some temples lend you sarongs during the visit. Don't know if Saraswati Temple does...
How long does it take to go around the temple?

The temple itself is not big. But if you want to take pictures, especially at the weekends, you might need an hour to capture some interesting spot around. To enjoy the view of this temple, I highly recommend you to take a good spot seat in Lotus Restaurant, which on the same location with the temple.

Hi, Janine. What would you like to know about this attraction? Do you get to keep the sarong or do you just use it? I'm going in August. Thank you, Janine

it seems you can't go inside the temple. but the outside view over the pond was splendid. and you don't need the sarong to go around outside.

This place is very convenient to access for any people. This is just beside the main road, your car can drop you on gate. No ticket needed to enter.
You have Lotus café and Starbucks on the Sawaswati Temple gate, so you can have a rest during your trip to Ubud.
