The host (Putu) is an absolute gem, funny, informative and charming. She provides a genuine look into the Balinese culture.
On this adventure I finally felt like I was in Bali and had gained some culture rather than just deepen my tan.

Our host (Putu) picked us up from our Ubud hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned van. On the way to the market we discovered the her English was absolutely impeccable!
At the market she educated us on the different foods and ceremonial goods available. Then bought us some traditional Balinese sweets for our breakfast.
With all the ingredients in hand we ventured to her home. Upon arriving she gave us a quick tour of her beautiful and traditional Balinese home which she shares with several generations of her family. We then walked through her sumptuous garden which she uses to feed her family. She was kind enough to twist off a fresh coco pod so we could taste fresh chocolate beans for the 1st time.
We then sat down for a breakfast feast of coffee, sweets and a myriad of fruits. It was decadent and incredible. Im between bites we learned about Putu and Bali and shared a bit about ourselves too.
With a belly full of energy we headed to a purpose built outdoor kitchen for our cooking class. Putu walked us through each recipe, teaching us the ingredients and the techniques that her mother taught her. She was a supportive, detail oriented teacher who always made sure to keep us chefs in good humor.
After countless rounds of chopping, frying and grinding we were famished and excited to taste our creation. The effort was worth it, in the first bite it was clear that this was going to be the best meal I've had in Bali, it was fresh, authentic and true. We ate as much as we could, with Putu always urging us to eat more before we packed ourselves a doggy bag for dinner.
Full, sleepy and content we were driven back to our hotel where we said our goodbyes and went in for a nap.

What a treat it was to spend an afternoon with Butu and her family. Their family compound is so interesting as she explains her family history and her home. Butu speaks English well. Once you have seen her garden, she starts her cooking course, which all I can say is very inspirational. She explains all the ingredients that we will be cooking with (which all comes from their family farm). The instruction is easy to follow and a lot of fun to do. After you are all done, you sit down and have one of the best Balinese meals we have had. Just come and have one of the best afternoons in Ubud.

Putu and her family were incredible hosts and we absolutely loved the cooking class. She and her husband picked us up at our hotel and took us to their family home in a small village outside of Ubud. She gave us a tour of the family shrine, farm, and the rest of the property. We loved getting to see even a small glimpse of Balinese life.

She modified her usual recipes to be vegan and gluten free for us and every was so delicious. We couldn’t even finish all of the food! Most of the ingredients were from the family farm, and everything else was from the local market.

This was absolutely worth every penny and I would recommend it to anybody.

A wonderful hostess & great teacher. We got to see a traditional balinese home, family temple and garden in a lovely quiet village close to Ubud.
The food we made was very tasty and we were able to adjust the spice to our preferences as well as getting to take leftovers away with us.
We were also provided with recipes for all the meals.

Even a solo traveler with very little cooking knowledge enjoys this unique experience, what stop you from joining the class with Putu? Putu, Pasta (her husband) and other family members are friendly, generous, and professional. They not only teach cooking, but also open up their home and themselves to share everything with visitors. You will learn Balinese cuisine, culture, architecture etc. all at once! Join Putu’s class and you won’t regret! I’m speaking from the bottom of my heart. :-)

Went on a Sobah Sistahs retreat with 13 amazing woman and we had the pleasure of learning how to cook Balinese food by Putu and her family. Was absolutely wonderful and everything was fresh and delicious. Then there was a young girl who performed a traditional Balinese Dance for us which was absolutely breathtaking and mesmerizing. It was One of my favorite days on my Bali Vacation. I would absolutely go back and repeat this day!

We had a fantastic time with Putu & family, Putus’ knowledge and skill in preparing traditional Balinese food is exceptional and it was so much fun. The whole experience was great value for money, we’re taking some great recipes home with us and we can’t recommend this tour highly enough. If you want a Balinese food experience to remember, book this and you won’t be disappointed.
