About
Tresna means "love" in Balinese which is what we poured into the building of our dream cooking school. With our shared love of food and cooking, you will delve into hands-on lessons with a heavy emphasis on our rich Balinese culture. Our menus are Adi’s own recipes that he’s honed over decades of cooking for loved ones. We teach only authentic Balinese home cooked dishes as well as extravagant ceremonial specialties. We use the freshest of ingredients from our own gardens and the local market in Ubud. We selected the location, only 7 minutes from Central Ubud, for its natural riverside tranquility. We’ve tended trees for years, planted an organic garden and designed cooking stations that are conducive to learning. Beyond our beautiful location, we’re systemic in our approach. Our class menus are a celebration of the freshest ingredients of that that day. You'll learn recipes found only in a traditional Balinese family compound with passionate cooks such as Adi and Frances.

There are Better Options
Oct 2019 • Couples
We visited the Tresna Cooking School last year (just now catching up on some reviews during the lockdown)
While the content of the class is ok, and knowledgeable, the hostess is more interested in promotion of her business. I found this annoying.
As this was my first Balinese cooking class, it was a disappointment.
My wife has been to others (she is a regular visitor to Ubud), she said this one lacks authenticity and doesn't recommendation it.
I don't either.
If other reviewers were impressed by this one, they would be delighted with others.

Vegan Cooking Class
Feb 2020 • Friends
We booked into the vegan cooking class & it was wonderful! Adi & Francis were so knowledgeable, funny, talented and welcoming! We learnt how to make and cook many dishes as well as getting to experience selecting our ingredients from the garden. The lunch we made was insanely delicious too!! I would highly recommend this on your next trip to Bali if you love good food and learning about the local cuisine.

Traditional Balinese Feast - Must do in Bali!
Dec 2019
We recently attended the Balinese Feast cooking class at the Tresna Bali Cooking School. If you’re looking to learn how to cook authentic Balinese cuisine in a fun environment, look no further! Frances and Adi are fantastic hosts and the class progresses from harvesting fresh herbs and other produce in their organic garden to learning how to prepare many Balinese dishes. Be sure to arrive with a hearty appetite as the end result of the class may be the best meal of your trip! Thanks Frances and Adi!

Best experience in Bali
Jan 2020 • Solo
I have been to Bali many times, however this time I came solo. I met a woman at the hotel I was staying at, who recommended I go to Tresna Bali Cooking School and we both shared a passion for food and culture.
I contacted them on the spot via their website and received a response within 20 minutes. As there were no other scheduled participants, I could book a private session.

Arriving at the property, I was welcomed by the most beautiful people Frances and Adi. Their energy, stories and humour made the experience more than just a cooking class.

Walking through the garden, you pick fresh produce and learn about ingredients we don’t have back home. The even had a cinnamon tree, which I had never seen before ( which is crazy as I LOVE cinnamon).

We go through step by step preparing a celebration feast using traditional techniques (no blenders involved). The end result..... the best Balinese food I have EVER tasted.

I cannot wait to return with my family.

Thanks you

Tradional, "Veganised" Balinese Cooking Class - FANTASTIC!
Dec 2019
Last month my mother and I both did this vegan cooking class together and we enjoyed it so much! We learnt a lot and overall it was such a fun and really great experience. Not only do you get a great insight into traditional Balinese meals but you also get to meet some great people. Tresna Bali Cooking School is also extremely unique as they have their own massive garden where they get all their fresh vegetables from; at the start of the class you go and pick the food needed for the meals (really cool!). And even if you're not vegan, the food is amazing and definitely worth your while. Will definitely be back!

A must do! Traditional Balinese Feast.
Dec 2019
If you love food or want to experience delicious traditional Balinese food this is definitely the cooking class to do. The hosts Frances & Adi made myself, my husband and two daughters so welcome. We learnt to make some incredible traditional Balinese dishes picked from their garden, which we all got to share for lunch. What a delicious feast!!! I finally learnt to make Satay which I’ve attempted on numerous occasions without success. I can’t wait to make it for my friends and family back home. Tresna’s Cooking School knowledge of traditional Balinese food is second to none. We highly recommend this if you’re traveling to Bali.

Dear Frances and Joe, Thank you so much for recommending us to others! We're so happy that you learned the proper technique to make a really juicy and flavourful satay. Can't wait to see you recreate this at home in Sydney! We also love it that even though your daughters don't usually cook at home, hopefully, we've inspired them to try cooking more at home! We look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip to Bali! Happy Cooking! Frances (#2) and Adi Tresna Bali Cooking School

Authentic Balinese cooking experience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dec 2019 • Solo
I bought a 15-meal cooking class for my dad’s birthday and it was the best gift I could have given him! We had an amazing, truly authentic, well-organised experience and picked up a few additional skills, and a couple of inches around the waist after enjoying everything we prepared and cooked. Wonderful hosts, spotless environment, and fantastic guidance and teaching. Thank you Frances & Adi ❤️

Most wonderful, well-run and heartfelt cooking experience.
Dec 2019 • Couples
My husband and I are on our honeymoon in Bali and happen to come across Tresna by word of mouth - what luck! Frances and Adi lead the most beautiful, informative and FUN class, that both myself (with a lot of cooking experience and a career in food) and my husband (not so much) could enjoy.

Adi wove beautiful stories of traditional, ceremonial cooking into his teachings and Frances choreographed a beautiful dance between herself and her staff from dish to dish, making every transition seamless.

The class packed in a lot of knowledge and a lot of dishes, but never felt overwhelming or long.

Their staff was wonderful - friendly and helpful - and the venue is really special.

Finally, but perhaps most importantly, the food you create is amazing and the lunch at the end of the class is enjoyable on all levels - from the food to the company!

We would highly recommend this class to anyone!

Thank you so much Frances and Adi!

They have an amazing VEGAN classes!

Vegan Balinese Cooking Class? LOOK NO FURTHER! Even if you are a meat eater, you won't miss anything - quite the opposite, you will be amazed and inspired to upgrade any cooking skills you have! This is the real deal. OMG, so delicious and such a passionate family running the school. They have deep roots within the community so you will no only learn how to make the richest, tastiest and most beautiful balinese food but also about balinese living and culture. This course was truly a gift to me as a vegan chef and traveler and I can from all my heart recommend this to experience yourself. ...and OMG, that feast we had after a day of picking fresh garden veggies, learning about local ingredients, herbs and spices, cutting cooking, stomping and BBQing... just WOW! I wish they had a restaurant and I would go there every day! Thank you Francis and Adi!!! PS ask Francis about her book and how she wants to save Balinese heritage with it <3
