Mainly paintings and sculptures (bronze or wood). Pleasant museum with nice rooms and lovely gardens (including a cafe).Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 January 2023
- andrewjennyHervey Bay, Australia342 contributionsBest art gallery in UbudThis is the best art gallery we have visited in Bali. Great mixture of sculptures, Balinese artefacts and mostly art works. If you are a fan of art galleries or just have a passing interest visit this place. You can spend anywhere from 1 hour to up to 3. We'll worth a visit.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 February 2023
- J DUnited States164 contributionsUbud's (Bali's?) Best Art MuseumWhat a wonderful museum, displaying great pieces of artwork including paintings, sculptures and photographs by Balinese and other Indonesian artists as well as by expatriate artists, including Dutch artists and others who lived in Bali when Indonesia was still a colony. Architecturally the museum's buildings are splendid as is the lush garden that surrounds the various galleries. Visitors should plan on spending 2-3 hours in order to fully appreciate the Neka Museum's large and impressive collection (luckily there's a nice small café should you wish to pause for a break).Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 23 March 2023
- Travelbug1155San Francisco, California534 contributionsBeautiful layout and high quality workOf the 4 museums I visited this was my favorite. I was virtually alone for 90 minutes touring superb wood carving , that’s saying a lot in this area. The paintings too we’re of a very high artistic caliber . More than your typical densely drawn religious or workers themes. The flow of the buildings , the grounds, the galleries, all were really lovely. Cost was reasonable too. - Ben S26 contributionsSo many paintings!Lovely art gallery in Ubud with a diverse range of Indonesian paintings and sculptures + Keris collection. There is an incredible amount of art, and with an entrance fee of 100k this is well worth. The grounds are well maintained and it is not busy, making it a peaceful destination for tourists trying to avoid the crowds. It is located a bit out of the way and is quite a walk from the centre of Ubud. Would recommend for those who like to browse art and are looking for a peaceful use of 1-2 hours.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2023
- Jessica K10 contributionsStunning art!Really enjoyed our trip to Neka - very few tourists around which made the experience so peaceful after the hustle and bustle of Ubud central! The art is so beautiful, and absolutely worth the visit to admire the colours and stories behind the artists and the artwork. The surrounding grounds were gorgeous and well kept. This is a beautifully preesented art museum covering all schools of Balinese paintings in well-maintained buildings and grounds. Takes about 3 hours.

Overlooking a beautiful garden setting the Neka museum is the best place on the Island of Bali to enjoy high quality artworks by both Indonesian and foreign artists. You get to meander through traditional buildings laid out like a family compound, each one filled with various artworks from traditional to contemporary, to photography and more.
The photography opportunities are endless, and there are lots of benches to sit and admire, plus each artwork is accompanied by information plaque to go with it. Total time will be around 2 hours give or take. There is a lot to admire. I was the only visitor as it is not really a popular location

Ubud is famous for its paintings and the best are represented in this gallery. 2 or 3 hours to get around.

The Arie Smit paintings. How many are there in the museum? Are there any images of them?
Frank B

I think you'll find that almost all of Arie Smit's paintings are in Neka Museum. For many of Arie's final years he was tended to by Neka and during the last decade or so of his rich life, Arie lived in Villa Sanggingan, just about 100 metres down the hill on Jalan Raya Sanggingan. Villa Sanggingan is also owned by Pak Neka who is the proprietor and chief collector of Neka Museum. For these reasons, Neka has most of Arie Smit's paintings on display in his museum. I hope that helps poxavier, even though I am late in responding. Cheers.
