It's truly a Chinatown like one found in any other Indonesian city. It's busy & concentrated in one area of the city & in this case it is at an area called "Pondok" in Padang. This commercial area is lively throughout the day & until late night too with their roadside culinary offerings.
Interesting place to check out.

more interesting are the former colonial dutch buildings, that might be much more dominating in the area if fully renovated once upon a time and then this chinese quarter will lose its gain

The chinatown is a small part of the Padang Old Town area. Although it is not as grandiose as other chinatown it still has its own charm. Visit only if you have time.

Padang's Chinatown consists of a lot of rundown and in some cases deserted buildings from the Dutch era. Worth a short visit but little more. That said, the relatively new Chinese/Confucianist Temple is worth seeing.

We only passed through this area on our way to the airport. I was quite impressed by the old heritage buildings, too bad many were abandoned and not well maintained.
Architecture and heritage building enthusiasts/ photographers would surely love to take a stroll or take photos here

Place is just one Street and most of the places weren't open at 8pm.
One museum type place was okay but small. Also the gate looked nice at evening.

Chinatown is more like a foodie place to me. Here, you can locate some of the best Chinese and Indonesian food. There are also a couple of very nice cafes located here. A lot of the buildings here in Chinatown are actually heritage buildings but they are not very well preserved. What a pity!!! How I wish the authorities would put in more effort to restore these buildings. Here in Chinatown, majority of the Chinese de

Not really of a China Town but there are a couple of heritage buildings that are pretty well-preserved, confirming the presence of Chinese community in this part of the town. Nevertheless, around the "China Town" area, there are ample of good eateries. You can satisfy your hunger pangs here.
