We drove along Lake Erie. The communities were beautiful. We drove into a marina to get a good view of the lake. There were many vineyards right in the road. This was a nice break from interstate driving.

Find the jewels of local restaurants, shops and parks on the alternate road to the highways. Best for people who love to meander along the road and discover hidden treasures!

NY state version of Route 66 so go from Albany to Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo at a slower but more interesting route than the NYS Thruway. the Doctor hit me with a helpful vote

Route 20 can go from Albany to Schenectady and beyond. The roads are well kept. There are many supermarkets and shopping centers as well as crossgate mall is on route 20.

I probably would not take twenty. I would get on I 90 west once your on the Albany area.
