    Climb
We climbed in mid-March. Halfway through the journey, snow appeared, the entire road was covered in snow, it was very slippery. Take comfortable and non-slip shoes with you (ice shoes/ice shoes). I had summer rag sneakers, and they always rolled down all the way. The whole journey took us 7 hours.

Beautiful scenery and relaxing hiking trails
The largest volcano on Jeju is in Hallasan National Park. There are various hiking trails, but two of them have to be reserved in advance as there are capacity restrictions (a day in advance is too short). We then opted for the unrestricted Eorimok Trail - also a beautiful hike, 6.8 km one way, varied landscape.

    Hallasan Mountain
It was the best decision I made to visit Hallasan on December. The trail is easy and the snow spotted all the trail just cuase slippery but still negotiable so please prepare your hiking shoes. It was a good weather and I met amazing people all the hike. We rented a car during our stay in Jeju. And entrence for Hallasan is Free. You just need to pay 1000krw for parking. Definately will come back !

    A great if horrible hike!
A great if horrible hike! :) We went up Gwaneumsa trail which is indeed challenging - esp. the last couple of kilometers that are very steep - but altogether in fact quite enjoyable! Facing a lot of rain reaching the top we then decided to go down the supposedly « easier » Seongpanak trail which right from the outset felt truly horrible! It is covered for kilometers on end with rocks (which under heavy rain end up being also rather treacherous) - only briefly interrupted with wooden planks that offer a welcome if very short lived relief. In hindsight we should have gone down the Gwaneumsa trail. But in the end absolutely great memories! Would I do it again? Certainly not under the rain!

A wonderful gift of Mother Nature
Visiting this mountain and its park easily helps you understand why Jeju Island is included among the "New 7 Wonders of Nature". It immerses you into the beauty of Nature and gives you that much needed respite from your busy daily schedule. There are many spots you can visit on this mountain. We joined a guided tour which took us to the famous "1100 Road" and wetland. We also saw the monument depicting the legendary white deer. Your tour guide should tell you the story behind it. The wooden trail that guides you through the wetland is amazing! It was, indeed, a very relaxing visit. Highly recommended!

    Highlight of Korea
Difficult, 5 to 6 hours for 1300/1400m elevation gain Hallasan National Park is the jewel of Jeju, and if you are a hiker, it is an absolute must. At 1,947 meters, Hallasan is the highest peak in South Korea, and the view from Baengnokdam Crater at the top is simply breathtaking. Two main trails lead you there: the Seongpanak Trail (9.6 km, about 5 hours climb, which I recommend for the climb because easier) and the Gwaneumsa Trail (8.7 km, about 5 to 6 hours climb), the latter being the most difficult with a steeper elevation gain (for the descent). Expect a good sweat, but the game is worth it. It is better to attack early, and not to be afraid of the crowd (by the way, you have to book your Check-out slot online). The majority of the climb is in the undergrowth, without a view, and it is on the last 2 or 3 kilometers that you go beyond the rumbling of trees to have a view of the whole island. Beautiful, unavoidable, but the crowd spoils the fun of the experience "in kind". Physical and sporting feat still present

Animal and plant treasures of high academic research value
Located in the center of Jiangsu Island, at an altitude of 1950 meters, the Hangzhou Mountain is the most representative of the island. It is named "Hangzhou Mountain" by the name of the "Hangzhou Mountain" (high to the galaxy), and it is known as "Hangzhou Mountain" because of the ancient legend that there are gods living here. Distributed by a wide variety of plants, Hanoi Mountain is a treasurehouse of animal and plant with great academic research value and was designated as No. 182 Natural Monument in October 1966. Here for free visits, there is a parking lot Han Visitor Center.

I took bus 240 and saw the wetlands biosphere at the 1100 rest area stop and also managed the Eoseungsaengak trail. Yes it’s possible to come by public bus but you need to be careful to take note of the schedules. I did a combination of the Jeju Tourist hotline chat and the counter staff at Jeju Bus terminal and Naver maps. Takes commitment.

The wetlands biosphere area is interesting. However take note that the bus stop is not listed on the timetable at the bus stop. I sent a photo to the Jeju Tourist hotline and that was what I was informed. That means the time of arrival of the bus needs to be estimated - best call them for an explanation but trust me I kid you not.

Eoseungsaengak trail is a 15-20 min walk from the 240 bus stop. Quite obvious cos there is a wooden path from the bus stop. The trail proper is lots of stairs. It being winter, there were slippery sections. Intrepid Korean children, their parents and grandparents trot up and down rather easily though there were some people using walking sticks to negotiate slippery parts.

The view at the top is spectacular. Well worth the walk.

Given the slippery conditions it took about an hour and a half though in drier conditions it could well takea shorter time. Plan carefully if you take public transport as you need to factor in the 15-20 min walk to the bus stop. To and from Jeju City is about 40 mins upwards depending on traffic. Very decent to reach Hallasan. Only bus up to Eorimok/Eoseungsaengak is the 240. PLAN.

An enjoyable hike. I made a mistake by hiking up Eoseungsaengak Trail, it’s 1.5 hour, probably the easiest and you can see the jeju city, it’s 1300m, I did hear a deer around when I hiked down but I could not see it. The view is pretty good.
I went down quickly after realising that I made a mistake and start hiking up eorimok trails. The 2.5 hour up is 3/5 in terms of difficulties. The starting is easy but there are some path that the stones are uneven, need to be careful on the steps. I then hiked down the Yeongsil trail in 1.5 hour. That is slightly easier than eorimok. Some parts that look scary due to the view of the bottom but the scenery is beautiful. You can see the 500 buddiest rock.
I hiked on 27sept, the weather is fantastic, no rain at all, it’s also not hot, however, I don’t see many flowers nor maple leaves
Since I got off the bus at eorimok entrance, I did not know where the bus stop in yeongsik trail. I took a very very long walk down. I don’t know if there’s a shorter way. The eorimok entrance is not too far from the bus stop.
Note that there’s is no 740 bus anymore . You just have to wait for 240. I stayed in jeju city
Highly

We love the hike but descending the trail (We used Gwaneumsa Trail up and down) was taught with endless rocks. There are many steps to negotiate. Only the fittest will survive in this relatively lower gradient mountain. Overall, we had a great time. Just don't forget to pack your lunch and picnic at the top together with hordes of colourful ahjummas and ahjussis

Got the 240 bus out to the start of the Eorimok trail which took us two and a half hours to climb up to Witseoreum where we switched to come down on the Yeongsil trail, which took one and three quarter hours down. Glad we did it that way around as the down would have been a harder ascent. Shame that we walked all the way through clouds ha ha

To make sure hikers are able to return to base before sundown, you have to enter the trail no later than noon and must reach the final section of the approach by 12:30. Gwaneumsa trail was about 8.7 km long taking about five hours at a leisurely pace. Most of the hike was in a shaded area which would make it comfortable even during summer. The first 3 kilometers were just a stroll with nicely laid out boardwalks for some stretches. There are railings parallel to the trails in case an injured person needs to be transported from higher elevation, which made it extra reassuring for me. Although steep, it was still a relatively easy hike and I made it through the last section without much problems. From about 1600 m above and onwards, the trails were covered in ice and snow which slowed me down a bit as I didn’t even think about carrying crampons in late March.

As I got a late start the summit area was a little crowded with hikers having lunch or taking breaks. Luckily, the Baekrokdam peak is a crater and there was a relatively wide area for people to sit around at the summit. Unlike the Baekdusan Cheonji Lake, Baekrokdam is devoid of any water except a small patch of water that looks like a small puddle from the top. While not particularly scenic, it is nice to stand at the highest point in the country. Because of the strong winds, I didn’t stay long and started to head down the less steep Seongpanak Trail which was about 9.7 km to the parking lot. Few kilometers from the summit was easy with boardwalk paths and steps. There was a three kilometer stretch of snow covered trails that made the descent quite stressful though. Once the snow covered area was cleared, it was a long but relatively flat walk rest of the way which my knees were thankful for. The entire round trip took about nine hours total without much rest. Having crampons would have shaved at least an hour off of that time.

The course does get busy during mid-day. Arrive early if you wish to make it to the summit. If you travel in the afternoon, the park does not allow further hikers to access to mountain due to safety concerns. Most of the initial hike has wooden or stone steps to assist all hiker levels.

A must-do when visiting Jeju It would most likely take the whole day for it to climb and enjoy the sights. Recommend that you bring enough water and food for pit stops along the way. Walking sticks are useful and many of the hikers are using them.

Following our arrival at the Yeongsil path, we parked at the lower end of the route and then hiked up for thirty minutes to reach the beginning point. Even though we were only a few days away from the height of the foliage, it was still quite fine in several areas. After that, we descended by way of the Eeorimok route. This section is more peaceful and monotonous, yet it presents a new challenge in the volcanic stone sections.

I would do it again. What a lovely walk. You start off from 1,280m at the carpark base and we made our way up to 1,700m. Took us 90mins to get there. Some bits were quite strenuous and a basic level of fitness is required. Good to be prepared with good hiking shoes. There's a natural spring drinking water point closer to the destination. And at the top, there a huge rest area with toilets. You can find many locals resting there with a well deserved snack to replenish ones energy.
