This is the nicest church I saw in my month long trip to india/sri lanka. The stain glass is just beautiful, nothing ornate like a catholic church, its very simple, I just worshipped and spoke with the caretaker. Like other reviews please give a donation. Once again really nice church.

The DRC in the Galle Fort is an oasis of calm in the midst of The Forts hustle and bustle. It's a museum, a place of records, a historical building and an active place of Worship, all in one. Don't forget to make a donation for its upkeep - places like this need high maintenance and every bit helps.

Built by the Dutch in 1755, it is still in use. Its foundation was laid in 1682 but never finished at that time. It was open when I visited. It is on, aptly enough, Church Street, near the Amangalla Hotel. It was built on the highest point of land within the fort, over the remains of a Portuguese Capuchin convent. Many grave markers line the interior floor. A walk along the exterior walls leads to many grave markers.

Did a walking tour of the Galle Fort Area and visited the church during the tour. A historical church building with a lot of history and cool to see all the inscriptions on the floor of the church in Dutch. It is free to enter. We did a quick tour of the place but definitely worth visiting if you are in the area.

This is situated in the galle dutch fort and it was built by the Dutch in 1755 and is one of the oldest Protestant churches still in use in the country. There are many tombstones stones date goes back the 18th century during the Dutch period. And also there were some 2 basement cellars, which were closed/ barricaded.

One of those things you see while in Galle, the church is surprisingly well kept, and is full of tombstones inside and out. There is also a small crypt that is locked. (Don’t fall down!) Stop. Look around. Take a photo. Move on. (And leave a donation.)

The Dutch Reformed Church or Groote Kerk is one of the oldest Protestant churches to serve this island. It was built by the Dutch in 1755 on the highest point within the fort, with its base standing more than 12 metres above sea level.

This serene church oozes history, from its simple white stone exterior, surrounded by granite tombstones of former Dutch settlers.
Inside its plain wooden pews and grey flagstone floor is like stepping back in time.
Make sure you read some of the tombstones in the floor - fascinating piece of history - beautifully preserved.

This review is quite late. The Dutch Reformed Church is conveniently located within the vicinity of Galle Fort. The beautiful church building is well maintained and is neatly covered with white paint. I went inside and found a group of young choir members having their practice. It is interesting to see many inscriptions on the walls and on the floor.
