A historical site not to be missed. Just off Atatürk Boulevard you’ll see the impressive three double arches of the gates, which were erected in 130 to celebrate the visit of Emperor Hadrian. Legend has it that in ancient times, the queen of Sheba passed through the middle arch on her way to Aspensos and spent a happy night with King Salomon. With the exception of the columns, the arch is made from white marble and is richly decorated.

Even its antique it belongs to modern city now. Cafes and small shops around it make it seem very local like its not an hostorical but modern place.

You can see the Roman empire layer road level in the same time you approach the old citadel of Antalya. Across the street on the new city side you can also see Karakaş Mosque by a famous vernacular architect of Republic, Turgut Cansever. As a new reproduction of the older mosque, it is a special project offered to him as... More

Its a treasure in the city, but Turks still did not realize its full value adding to the city, yet. I suggest you visit it after the sunrise or before noon because of the sun direction from the east is the best time to view it also the streets are quite and the city is fresh. It is surrounded by... History tells us that Hadrian loved his walls!! The great wall deviding England and Scotland springs to mind as does the wall in Spain! He also built other walls but in Antalya he built a wall AND a gate!! From the photo you can imagine the marvellous spectacle it must have been 900 years ago! It is still magnificent today... More

If you are in Kaleici, you have to visit this gate. one entrence is from Ataturk boulevard to Kaleici. There are beautiful cafes around it, and I consider it a must for visiting and even taking beautiful pictures.

The charm of the old town is breath taking... From the moment you walk through the gate.... The narrow streets, cafes and restaurants keep you busy for hours.....

Although this bit of crumbling stone is of not that much importance to some, it is a monument to Hadrian himself along the lines of Hadrian wall in England. The infill of the wall is interesting as some of the inevitable stone carving breakage is used. It's a hands on experience that takes two photos and 15 minutes of your... More

We started our tour of the old town here as it seemed logical. A great piece of history and easy access via the buses.
