We were walking the 540k Lycian Way and Xanthos is on the route. It's a very interesting ancient ruin with an amphitheatre, remains of a street, dwellings etc. Only 10TL to enter. We had a very knowledgable guide who highlighted lots of interesting facts that we'd have overlooked without his input. Very good.

Great ruins to wander around and climb further up the hill to explore the more remote buildings. We've been a few times and it's never very busy and is always peaceful. Also some great eating options down the hill in the town - especially if the chicken sandwich man is there!

We went there by taxi from Kalkan on a quiet afternoon (the taxi driver happy to doze in the car until we were ready to return!). There was no sign of one of the recommended unofficial guides until we walked over to the other side and came across Dolmos and his wife who appeared to be tending goats. Dolmos walked... More

We stopped of at Xanthos on the way to another destination and it was well worth the visit. Set high in the hills and with just our small party there you got a real feel for the place and you could get a good feel for what it was like back in 450 BC. Designated as a world heritage sight... More

Extremely interesting but hard to find. There was a cafe' at the reception hut but it was closed. Parking was easy when we eventually found it.

Given the number of Lycian sites around, this really is one of the more disappointing. Theatre is OK, but the rest? And very poorly signed

Just a few Kms from KALKAN are several really ancient cities. The ruins of Xanthos are among the best. Tombs. Amphitheatres they have been gradually excavated over the years we have been going. Well worth a visit.

Don't waste your money on the official site. The best bits are over the road and free to view. The amphitheatre is beautiful and well worth the visit.

If you are in Turkey and like archeological sites, you do not want to miss Xanthos. It's a Lycian city and not difficult to find if traveling in the area.
