Pretty is the word I enjoyed walking around the clean streets of Colonia. The afternoon by the shore was a highlight!

A pleasant ferry ride away from Buenos Aires lies the quaint town of Colonia Del Sacramento. Many restaurants, shops with handicrafts and souvenirs, a lighthouse and church. Stay for lunch and ice cream and stroll around the cobblestoned streets
Well preserved, very nice. A must. You can get to know rhe historical neighbourhood on foot and enjoy every new view. There is a guided city tour, however, I did not take it and felt there was no need. There is a map at the...More
We took the ferry from Buenos Aires for a nice day trip. It's a short walk from the dock to the historic town. Just before the entrance to the historic area, there is a tourist information booth. Stop in here for information and a map...More
Small area but filled with interesting architecture and history. We were fortunate to have a wonderful English speaking tour guide and Lourdes gave us an overview of the history as well as took us to Colonia highlights including the Saint Benito church, the old bull...More
Truly one of the cutest spots I’ve visited in a year in Central/South America. I’d highly recommend staying the night and taking time to wander around the cobbled streets. Sunsets by the water are beautiful and it’s even nicer when the day trippers leave. Its...More

There's so little to see it's really not worth visiting for its own sake. However, Colonia is worth a day or a half a day. Quaint and peaceful. As a generalism all the restaurants seem to sell very similar food with little variety.
During your stay in Colonia del Sacramento, the historical site is the "place" to visit. Here are the lighthouse, museums, historical buildings, restaurants and shops. It's very small, you don't need guidance.
