Maybe I didn't appreciate our tour of this little town because our guide wasn't that good and also one person in our party was having difficulty walking. Some quaint houses, a draw bridge, a church and a lighthouse.

The historic part of Colonia is very small and walkable though we did rent a golf cart near the ferry dock so we could venture beyond the historic center and so that we could see more in the time we had there. I certainly recommend doing that. The historic portion is very scenic and relatively uncrowded (at least when we... More

For a tourist this is the reason to visit Colonia photo opportunities everywhere as you meander through the cobblestone lanes & linger in the plazas

Located in proximity to the main port and bus stand, it provides a very relaxed atmosphere to walk around with a view to the humongous river (rio de la plata). A delight to the eyes, this historic zone transports your mind to the colonial era the moment you step into it.

Went on a day trip here from Montevideo. Long drive but the town was nice. You can walk around the old town in about 1-2 hours. Lots of cool restaurants and cafes. Great place for taking photos. It was hot and humid when we were there in January so bring a hot and light clothes.

We came here for a day's visit from Buenos Aires and loved this old area. The buildings are lovely and there's a lovely atmosphere. Lots of places to eat outside, we ate at the corner on Santa Rita road, overlooking the water. A lovely view. We also walked up the white tower (lighthouse) which gave us a great view for... More

Did a walking tour with local guide Federico, very cool guy. He can talk in spanish ( of course), portuguese and english. The price is around USD 5.00 and duration is 1h. You can ask for the guided tour at the turistic information Office right on front of historic fortress gate.

The Barrio Historico is part of the (NCL) walking tour of Colonia del Sacramento. Suggest wearing good walking shoes for this tour as the road are a mix of old cobblestone and dirt. The History of this area is interesting and this town was affected by good and bad aspects of colonialisim.

One of my favorites places in my country to visit. Heritage is well preserved and is like to be in another country.
