It is absolutely mandatory to climb the stairs of this lighthouse when visiting Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay . It’s the highest point in this picturesque colonial township. A quick climb to the top is worth it for visitors to Colonia. I made the climb on a Monday and it took maybe 20 minutes out of my day. It costs I think 3-4 Uruguayan pesos and is a bit tricky from a physical perspective (watch your head!). I visited on a cloudy day so the view over the... More

It was a short walk up and you don't see much of the water. The sky was hazy so we couldn't see Argentina (but you can on a good day) and the water was very brown. You do get some good photos of the town which is good. If you are afraid of heights don't worry. It is a short... More

Highly recommend people to climb the lighthouse. Wonderful aerial view of Colonia and if the sky is clear you can see Buenos Aires skyline from there. Also there are few really good family , local restaurants around this area and some gift shops too. I would suggest having a good lunch around the lighthouse and climb the steps ( watch... More
