It is the only remaining old government house in Japan with full structure. We had a good English translation from the staff which gave us an overview of the history and the building itself before the visit. So, it helps us to understand the exhibits. It could be boring for young children. Please ask for English translation when you purchase... More

It was interesting to visit the various sections of the building, gaining some understanding of how the government office functioned in the olden days. The garden at the centre was quite beautiful, though not very large.

Great for those who loves history. Unfortunately it's a bit small, and there're only few places with English explanation.

Typical Japanese style houses ... Nothing special. Quite similar to houses visited in Osaka and Kyoto.

Large complex with various rooms showcasing the place where government officials of the olden days work, rest and interrogate prisoners. There's a beautiful garden in the centre of the complex.

The Jinya used to be a government building. It had a lot of things you wouldn't see in visits to shrines including depictions on how administration worked in the olden days. If you're a history buff, you'll get a nice kick out of the experience, otherwise, it's just a lot of open floors with an ok garden. Unfortunately, a lot... More

This former government office now open to the public gives an insight into how 'business' was done in past years. Shoes off and walk through the tatami matted passages and rooms to see what their former functions had been (signs in English) Additional buildings are set up as display areas displaying a variety of items depicting the history of the... This exceeded our expectations. It really is a trip back in time. Being there on a cool day brought into focus the reality of living in the mountains pre-central heating.

Beautiful house. Nice inner Japanese garden. Very educational on how this house was being used a few hundred years ago.

If you like old Japanese architecture, then you'll love wandering around this grand old building. Surprisingly interesting, I must admit I wasn't all that keen to go in, but my wife convinced me and I'm glad we spent the hour wandering around. Good informative signage and you really got a sense of the place when it would have been operational.... More
