we were staying at Oyado Yamakyu ryokan, and this walking course was right beside it. Has a cluster of old buddhist temples woh a bit of description of its history. Nice and quiet place for an evening stroll

We enjoyed the solitude of this interesting walk. It takes you through forests past shrines and temples and provides information along the way. Well worth a wander.

An easy walk, great views of the city, lots of interesting shrines and temples. Too bad we had to stop early due to rain. Bring an umbrella if you go.

Relatively easy walk for our 5,7,9yo. Got them out of the town tourist crowds and got a good bit of space the round and get some energy off. We climbed up the the castle ruins on the park. Very clear sign posts. I wouldn’t take...More

If walking through the historic centre is a highlight and must-do, so is the walking course. Yes, there are stairs and a few steep bits but as a walker with two very dodgy feet, a bit of gritting teeth and you can do it and...More

A nice exercise walking from shrines to temples with nice views of Takayama. But nearly all the sites were closed, making the experience a walk, not a visit to these historic sites.

A very well signposted walk on made up paths and tracks which visited many temples and had great views above the town. The cherry blossom was a bonus and we found a tiny coffee shop where the owner presented us with cake and pear along...More

Don't follow the circular route of places of interest, it just applies to the graveyard, go to one temple and look for the sign to the next

This is by far one of the best hikes I have done. The buildings, Temples, Shrines, Burial places etc. Are incredible. It's a lot of walking but well worth it. Plan on at least 4 hours. Some hills and uneven ground.

The Higashiyama walking course takes you through the shrines, temples and grave sites of Takayama. Depending on the route you take, you might end up above the city, where there are excellent photo opportunities, through the forest, which is green and peaceful, or through neighbourhoods,...More
