This is a must see stop for anyone who visits Takayama! A great collection of all things from the Showa period-Godzilla, movie posters, dishes, you name it, it's there. All items are great examples of vintage mid-century Japanese kitsch, and it's artfully displayed!

It's a place of nostalgia with old shops and businesses recreated. Also an old schoolroom. Our favourite were the old, working Pachinko machines you could play.

The entrance tickets were relatively steep at ¥800 per person but I was pleasantly surprised when I explored the museum and found myself to like this place a lot! There are a lot of items that pertain to the 1950/60s and there were many things...More

Japan is a country of high contrasts and this museum is perfectly located in the sedate, historic town of Takayama. It is truly hands on and a great place to see the natives [at least the teenagers] let their hair down. Very rich experience for...More

Nice place . Went inside the store and found out there is a museum inside . Not big - it will not take more that 30 min of anyone's time but a lot of interesting things to see that would take you back in time...More

We spent almost an hour in this gem. The entrance to the museum is hidden at the back of a toy shop. A variety of artifacts from the last century displayed as different living spaces. Nostalgic whether you grew up in Japan or anywhere in...More

This Showa era museum was an absolute highlight of our trip to Japan. The exhibits are true blasts from the past, but unlike other museums, allow you to get up close and interact. We had so much fun photographing and interacting with the exhibits, particularly...More

This museum was a total surprise. It's small but packed with so much content. I strongly recommend this place. At 500Yen (around 5$), it's cheap fun!
