This silk shop serves as a silk museum as well. There are beautiful silks on display and for sale. We were there late in the day so we did not see anyone actually painting silk, though their paints and brushes were visible. There was information in English. There was no admission fee nor any pressure to buy.

The ‘Yuzen silk center’ was somewhat difficult to find and was a major disappointment. Being a ‘Silk Center’ I had expected more information on silk production and processing both current and historical. Although this place doesn't really do justice to these beautiful kimonos either, I found the people here more friendly and the facility more informative than at the Kaga Yuzen Kaikan. We went upstairs, where a woman explained the steps in the dying process (in Japanese) and then watched a short video. The kimonos are displayed downstairs, and there is also... More

The entrance fee was to high is comparison for what they show and how they show it in a common house. Didn't make a professional appearance.

Ok, so they didn't answer my email so my first advice is to get your hotel or a Japanese friend to book on your behalf. The basic dyeing experience costs ¥4000 including museum admission. Postage to my country cost an extra ¥900. At that time I was the only person at their well-lit workshop space. Staff was pretty friendly. You... More
